It's used to verify that GPS is working.? Now gives impression that GPS is not working
Thanks?

Thanks for that Michael. I plan on using some #32 I have on hand. Since I am more a 'maker' than a 'haver', it is all about the journey. Will post my results.

Re: DDS VFO - No Heartbeat

?Well, that took all of 5min.? I had an Arduino Uno.?? I used XLoader to upload the latest hex file (ie 1.0.4).? Swapped the chips.? I went in and set the GPS and the Line 2 to #HB.
Unfortunately that didn't take care of the problem.?

?I add #HB and then the Enter character and then hit the left button.? It saved it.? However now line 2 is all zeros that flash.?

?I'm closer. lol

40m QCX low power output

On my 40m QCX kit, I measure only .31W at the output of the antenna into a 50Ω load. If I measure at the mosfets, I get 5.2W out, but if I measure at the other pad of C29 (the one not connected to the mosfets), I get 0.3W again. Does anyone know why this might be?

Re: DDS VFO - No Heartbeat

?I was looking at the later version manuals.? The 1.01a has very limited things.? One of which is the #HB.? So now looking into upgrading the firmware.? That should be interesting.?? I'll keep you all posted on how that works out.

Hi Warren

8.13 GPS Display is only for informational purposes, not actually used for anything. But anyway, I do already have that on my list to investigate. So will try to get it resolved soon.?

Where's the python code (LOPORAv3d.py) that you talk about? This is fantastic, it's what I'm in the process of doing with the bitx: receiver, audio patch cables, USB sound, headless Raspberry Pi v3. I'd love to be able to use an ADC and Pi (or better, ESP32) eventually, but I'll be happy to get things set up.

Re: 80m QCX - Questions about how I'm diagnosing a problem

I followed the manual so

Primary: 5T?
S1: 5T
S2: 5T
S3: 68T

I used a little smaller wire but still had to stack turns

80m QCX - Questions about how I'm diagnosing a problem

I'm finally working on the 80m QCX. So far it looks like I wound T1 right but I'd like confirmation if possible.

The test method that I used is simple. I have a spectrum analyzer with a tracking generator. The TG is connected to the antenna connection and I have a 1x scope lead connected to the SA and the other end connected to the transformer winding that goes to pin 7 of the Quadrature Sampling Detector.?

SA settings (not sure what is useful info)
Span: 3.0 MHz
Center: 3.52 Mhz
10dB per division

C1 position vs peak freq on the SA
Meshed: 3.123 MHz
Open: 3.753

Unless I am completely off base, a distinct possibility, I think T1 is wound correctly but I'd like confirmation so I can move on.?

Here's a pic of C1's position?

and the SA peak at 3.52MHz

Re: QCX Troubleshooting - Please can you help?

The encoder part sounds a bit strange, it has dedicated pins to the micro and does not operate in analog mode. Put the scope on those two pins and while rotating the encoder see that it looks like a clean square wave with 5V amplitude. The chip has built in pullup (activated by the program) so the positive going flank should have more of a rounded edge than the negative.
Nothing wrong with the socket? like pins not sitting properly ?
Scoping the sidetone pin 15 should also show a square wave, at 700Hz or whatever it is set to in the menus.
Perhaps doing a factory reset, woult not hurt and eliminates any possible strange settings messing something up.

Re: QCX Troubleshooting - Please can you help?

Hi Julian, I have done some thinking on this, and if I were you I would go back to the original configuration (remove the modification) and start from there. The reason I say this is that your problems seem to have surfaced after you did the modification. Although it fixed your start-up issue you ended up with more problems. The sidetone is generated by the processor so with a scope you could check that on the? pin of the processor. There is quite of bit of good documentation in the assembly manual, along with circuit descriptions and diagrams. The Rotary encoder is very dependent on a good 5 vdc supply and I believe that is part of the modification that you had done, depending on which one that you did. Back to the sidetone issue you have a newly programed chip installed and I would check the parameters in the software for the generation of the sidetone level and frequency. Check and make sure you have a good clean 5vdc coming from your 5 volt regulator. Thats about all I can say but, wish you well. Bill KN8DMK

Times do indeed change. When a few decades ago the idea emerged that it would one day be realistic to produce a Software Defined Radio, G4OKW suggested on our local repeater in Suffolk (UK) that it would now be possible to “write a radio”.
