Re: Vertical SMA Tight Fit

Why not using a MCX connector + MCX to BNC pigtail?

I don't know if there are lower profile SMA connectors out there but I
am hoping this works with that LPF sticking out slightly.

I ran into the same issue. Ended up cutting the end of my pigtail and put a SMA to BNC panel mount connector on the back end of my case and soldering the coax directly to the board.?

Re: RD16HHF1 5Watt PA #chat

I'm using one and have been very happy with it. I sourced mine from ThePartsPlace from k5nwa; here's their page:??price/shipping is reasonable.?

I run it usually with 2W output and it seems to me in transmit the total draw in on the order of ~800-900mA. I biased it using the "zero bias" method, but I can't remember if there was any difference between it and the IRF510.?

Good luck!

QCX schematic error

Hi Hans- Another great kit. I found however:-
a) Assume Scematic is correct
b) BOM is correct
c) Layout and component overlay doesn't agree with schematic, in that R19 and R29 are reversed

Progrock accuracy as 10 Mhz disciplinned osc.

Hello Joel
As long as the 'window' of freq correction is 1-5 the signal is stable and clean for long stretches of time...
the mean frequency is abt 2-3 Hz lower than a 10 Mhz from a 'real' GPSDO.

when you set the 'window' to 0 then the frequency is corrected every second (by a minute amount...) which makes it difficult to measure on a spectrum analyzer with a 0.3 Hz RBW.

looking on a XY display (Lissajoue) and comparing the '10 Mhz' from a GPSDO to the '10 Mhz' from the Progrock shows a difference, the Progrock being lower by 2-3 Hz (and sometimes 5Hz).

Hopefully I managed to make myself clearer...

Hi Joe,

I¡¯m not sure if we are talking about the same thing or not, but my ProgRock GPS 10Mhz reference oscillator pulses on the scope. It seems that the power supply I use has a effect on this pulsing output. Switching supplies seem to cause the problem while battery supply works great. I¡¯m still not sure how accurate it is, but it seems pretty good.

Re: 20m QCX - output power issue

I have seen it on a 17m yota model that had the shorted Q6. Perhaps not everybody reporting this while running it with a broken transistor?
Could it be a undefined DC voltage on Q5 drain that somehow starts the drain-source diode conducting when a fast rising RF pulse comes along? If so, a solution could be a high value resistor from Q5 drain to +12V to keep it away from negative voltages.

Hammond 29830PSLA die cast - probably another perfect QCX enclosure?

Hi,

I think this is as expected.?

Please set the correction window threshold to zero and try again. It should narrow the green line and centre it on the red one.?

Hi Paul

Perhaps there are two possible causes.?

Firstly, check menu "4.5 Auto Space" and make sure it is Off. That feature didn't work in version 1.00b but is fixed in version 1.00c.?

Secondly, it is possible that you have the issue with Q6 and/or C33 oscillations, which others have also been discussing here. Subsequent kit batches have used MPS751 which seems to avoid the issue. You can also try replacing C33 with a lower value capacitance.?

However, I'm determined to try and so far, I can read 85% up to about
15WPM if I write it down.
I operate almost 100% on CW and I still write everything down :-) I'm
happiest at ~16 WPM but can go faster if pushed and the other operator
is sending good CW. Only now am I starting to be able to read simple
QSOs in my head, and I've been using CW consistently since I passed my

Re: 20m QCX - output power issue

Hi Olgierd

Yes, reducing C33 to 180pF will reduce the gain a bit. But there is plenty of gain anyway; and if it is the only way to stop the oscillation then it would be a good tradeoff...?

I am still not sure why a few people seem to have this problem but most do not.?

Hi Hans,

I tried adding 680pF SMD cap underneath C34 (something about capacitor inductance), but it didn't really change the behavior. I got two replacements for the dead Q6 (2SA-1315 and 2SB-892), will check with those.

1nF cap impedance is about 11 ohms @ 14 MHz, 180pF @ 14 MHz is 63 Ohms - wouldn't that reduce gain of the receiver?
