Re: Arduino Shield Kit for WSPR: Timekeeping questions
Hi Ryan No reason not to do it this way... it all depends on the accuracy of the real time clock. If the timebase is a TCXO then it could run the U3S in WSPR mode for weeks or months.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Sat, Oct 14, 2017 at 9:39 AM, Ryan Flowers <geocrasher@...> wrote: Hello All, |
Re: BSS12
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat¡¯s very useful information, Mikael! Thanks for sharing it! I¡¯ve ordered some of the balloons (the 36 inch ones). I wonder, do you fill the balloon bit by bit, and then try the floatation after every small fill? As attaching some kind of hose to the balloon will probably not work, the weight of the hose spoiling things. I assume in the meantime, inbetween the fills and until the correct amount of helium has been reached, the ¡°valve¡± of the balloon will keep the helium in. What if you put in just too much helium, will it be easy to release some? Then when it¡¯s filled with the correct amount of helium I understand you seal the filling hole with drops of super glue. ? I also would like to order these solar cells ? https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/100pcs-52x19mm-solar-cell-for-DIY-solar-panel-DIY-cell-phone-charging-Free-shipping/32283633274.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.qrQICu ? but I don¡¯t know which size to choose (the other available sizes are on that page as well). I prefer not to saw or break them to another size. What size do you recommend? What size solar cells do you use yourself on the BSS flights? ? I hope discussing these things on the QRP Labs forum is ok. Other future U3B or U3S balloonists might find it of interest as well. If Hans or members find all this not within the scope of this forum, let me know and I¡¯ll try to find another form of communicatons. ? Thanks again and best 73 ? Michael PA7MDJ ? Shack clock kit arrived; not working though
Hi Hans and All, My Shack Clock kit and GPS Receiver kit arrived on Thursday. I built the clock on Friday night but all is not well. The LCD lights and shows one row of squares (top row) indicating that it's not been initialised to two rows. Changing the contrast makes the squares disappear and reappear but doesn't show any text. I've followed the Troubleshooting guide and tried the following. Changed from switch-mode to linear power supply. Added a 4700 microfarad capacitor across the power input. Tried the supplied 20MHz crystal and two different 16MHz crystals, all with and without 22pF capacitors. Checked for continuity and shorts on all connections between LCD and microcontroller. Changed the Reset link for a 100k resistor. Checked microcontroller pin voltages with a 'scope and x10 probe; All the following pins were at 0v; 8 (Gnd), 21 (ARef), 22 (AGnd), 9 & 10 (Xtal 1 & 2), 23 to 28 (PC0 to 5), 11 to 13 (PD5 to 7), 2 (PD0), 15 to 19 (PB 1 to 5) All the following pins were at +5v; 1 (Reset), 7 (Vcc), 20 (AVcc), 3, 4, 5 & 6 (PD1 to 4), 14 (PB0) There was no sign of "activity" on any pin, just the DC levels listed above. Some of those that read 0v were probably high impedance. The software version is C1.01a. The current consumption is 39mA with the LCD at full brightness and 7mA with the LCD disconnected. I've examined the board using a jeweller's loupe and I can't find any missed joints, solder bridges or other mistakes. Any suggestions welcome! Is it OK to couple an external 20MHz source into one of the Xtal pins? 73 and thanks in anticipation, John G4EDX Nottingham England |

The origional buttons were not used .
I had 2 extended push buttons in stock as wel as some cheap plastic potentiometers. The shafts were cut of and appeared to be hollow. A 1/8 ( 3mm) drill was used to enlarge the shaft inside for aprx. 2mm deep Next the shaft was pushed over the button¡¯s shaft and fixed with superglue. 73 John PD7MAA |

How did you pull the push buttons out? David G4YVM On 14 Oct 2017 4:21 am, "wb8yyy via Groups.Io" <wb8yyy=[email protected]> wrote: Wes |
Re: Ultimate LPF Switch Kit- partial build?
Hi Ryan? FYI they aren't zener diodes. Just ordinary 1N4148. Be careful with the jumpers. The recommended construction has LPF #1 always in circuit. The highest frequency LPF should be #1. Lower frequency bands signals are routed through their own relay as well as #1. 73 Hans G0UPL? ? Hoping I can just not worry about it since I only installed 3 relays and 3 sets of sockets. Thanks! |
Arduino Shield Kit for WSPR: Timekeeping questions
Hello All,
I am building the arduino shield kit for use as a WSPR transmitter, and I have a question about timekeeping. Now clearly, the GPS kit is great and preferred for many reasons. In addition to providing time and location it also provides frequency drift correction. But what if one doesn't actually care about those things, and only wants the?time to be accurate. There are several methods of adding a RTC to the arduino- is there any reason one of these clocks would not provide enough stability to run WSPR for weeks or months on end?? And yes I know all the arguments about not reinventing the wheel, but I can't help that reinventing the wheel is partly where I derive my joy :p -- Ryan Flowers W7RLF ? ? |

Error: Si5351A U3S
I have searched and read through the board and cannot seem to find an answer. So..I just assembled my U3S and started it up. The diagnostic screen comes on and after I press the left button, I see the startup screen then immediately get Error: Si5351A. I have looked over all of my boards for solder joints that are bad, fixed those "bridges" I found. Someone please help me.
