Re: QMX Not Appearing As USB on Mac OS

Have you checked using a different flash drive, that your Mac is showing external drives in finder? I believe there is a setting under Finder preferences to hide external drives.
Does the QMX show up under disc utility? I can¡¯t immediately see how it could affect it, but also check with a different USB cable and port on the Mac.

Yes it is only from China and Hong Kong that there is no exceptions for under $800 dollars.?? Any other place stays the same until it might be changed.

Jim--

On the QMX menu, tell it to do a FW update. That will (immediately, I believe!) put it into the mode where you can drop the file for updates.?

Pretty sure a power cycle isn't required, because if you did it would come back up as the original QMX!

Good Luck!

Yes. When I telll QMX to do a firmware update, it does its normal power off sequence and waits for the f/w to be moved into it. It will sit like that till either the cows come home or you unplug power manually, which I've done multiple times.

Power Supplies

It is really necessary to have a very clean, power supply with low ripple. This is especially noticeable on WSPR where you will see spurious signals either side of a strong signal on both RX and TX if there is residual 50 or 60Hz from your power supply.
I built up this unit using a modified "Studer 900" PCB in a blank QMX+ enclosure. Fully analog with discrete components!

Re: QMX Not Appearing As USB on Mac OS

I also have a Raspberry Pi that I'm trying this on. Same issue - QMX shuts down waiting for the f/w but I have no way to see the QMX to move the downloaded file into it. I have two QMX+ rigs - both are doing the same thing on Mac OS and RPI. I must be doing something wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Arrghhhh....

Did you try cycling power on the QMX+?

This is essentially an embargo, because it will slow down a package
for months. It is a part of the trade war which is wreaking havoc.?

It seems to say that IF it¡¯s under $800 AND not shipped via International Post THEN it will be subject to a tariff¡¡ maybe I read it wrong?

Here is text from the US government:
?
¡°Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order eliminating duty-free de minimis treatment for low-value imports from China¡¡±
¡±
  • Following the Secretary of Commerce¡¯s notification that adequate systems are in place to collect tariff revenue, President Trump is ending duty-free de minimis treatment for covered goods from the People¡¯s Republic of China (PRC) and Hong Kong starting May 2, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
    • Imported goods sent through means other than the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimisexemption will be subject to all applicable duties, which shall be paid in accordance with applicable entry and payment procedures.
    • All relevant postal items containing goods that are sent through the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption are subject to a duty rate of either 30% of their value or $25 per item (increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025). This is in lieu of any other duties, including those imposed by prior Orders.
  • Carriers transporting these postal items must report shipment details to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), maintain an international carrier bond to ensure duty payment, and remit duties to CBP on a set schedule.
  • CBP may require formal entry for any postal package instead of the specified duties.
  • The Secretary of Commerce will submit a report within 90 days assessing the Order¡¯s impact and considering whether to extend these rules to packages from Macau.¡±

Re: Feature Request List?

I¡¯d like to see the QMX and Plus be able to remember the last mode each band was in as you step through the bands.?
eg, I¡¯m using 20 meter USB and step through the bands to say 40 meters. It would be nice if it remembered that I was using LSB the last time I was on 40 instead of having to change it from USB.
Definitely not a need¡just a luxury. Maybe it would extend the life of the encoder a bit.?

Re: Do I have a 9 or 12 volt qdx, qmx

It's safe to run either one on less than 9 volts. You want to try to limit the output power to 5 watts or less. If it's built for 9 volts, then the output power into a 50 ohm dummy load will be close to 5 watts when using a 9 volt supply.
?
This is the empirical answer.? For example, on my QMX, wound for 12 volts
?
Voltage |? 60m |? 40m |? 20m |? 17m |? 15m
9v???????? | 4.1W | 3.6W | 3.6W | 3.2W | 2.8W
12v?????? | 6.4W | 5.7W | 5.9W | 4.9W | 3.9W
?
?
I would wager that if the QMX is a 12 volt units that you will see somewhere around the 4W range for 9 volts.

Re: #qmx #Firmware release 1_02_000 #qmx #firmware

Hans, customs might be more of a problem this year if you are bringing samples with you to FDIM.?? You will probably need proof of origin because "all electronics must be from China". unless proven otherwise.? Plan on paying tariff at point of entry.? Good luck, see you there.

Umut:? Announcing your intention to operate a pirate radio station on a public forum is likely to (or, should) earn you the disdain of other licensed Amateurs, who obey the regulations,

I would suggest you re-think your plans.

In my opinion the only way to confirm your first assumption is to remove the controller or lift the related pins and check the resistance. What should someone do from remote?
