Re: QMX+ with WA3TFS amplifier

Jamie, please keep the group updated on your progress.? I just ordered the WA3TFS amp kit to use with my QMX and am very interested in how to resolve this issue!

Happy to help, Andrew. :-)
Congratulations on you successful build!!! :-)

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Are you sure your USB cable is data capable and not charge only.

Hi All,
?
I just recently finished my QMX mid band kit and on powering up, my computer does not see any usb device. I have tried a computer running Windows 10 and another running Linux.
?
I have tried multiple combinations of plugging or having the device unplugged before power on.
?
I have been using a voltage and current limiter with a battery pictured below, limiting voltage to 7V then 9V (to see if that would make a difference) and limiting current to 250 mA.
?
In the pictures, you can see the device off then when I turn it on, the V out goes down slightly and there is a 170 mA current draw.
?
Thanks all for any suggestions,
Andrew

Re: JS8 no transmit

on tx 440 S "rig failiure Hamlib error: invalid parameter while setting current VFO mode" that is not mentioned with TS 480 but PTT Test it simply gets red. Also wtih the tuen button ther is no output. Decoding is ok ther are signals on 20 m.
The TX ahs only 2 dots so that would indicate a too low Audio but in windows all is set to max.

Re: Help with partially fried QMX

Alrighty, we're in the home stretch now! After another visual inspection of the 3.3v board I noticed I was missing diode D105 from the factory. After salvaging that diode from my old SMPS board, I plugged in the 7v 250mA power supply and booted without issue!

Just have one small remaining issue to solve. Every time I rotate the right rotary knob I am seeing a click of the left knob being simulated. This is leading to a behavior where every time I twist the right knob the mode switches between cw and digi. Going to reflow some joints to see if that resolves the issue in the meantime.

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Andrew, that is correct, Hans just corrected me. My last build was a QMX+, so I thought that was also true of the QMX. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

It worked! Thanks for your suggestions Mel. I am being overly cautious as this is my first build but looks like everything is in order!

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Hi Andrew,
?
Just download the firmware, unzip/extract the file and then copy and paste the extracted firmware in to the QMX USB folder.
?
I think it should then reboot, but please check the instruction manual.

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Goodness, I'm embarrassed to say that I think this is the issue (I do not use USB C frequently in day to day life).

However, now when I look at the device on my windows machine I see that there is no EEPROM file. Is this a reason for concern or is it file to proceed and place the firmware file in the QMX "E: Drive"?

Many thanks,
Andrew

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Hi Andrew,
?
Not all USB cables are wired for data transfer. Some are for charging only. This could be one reason why you're not seeing the QMX as a USB drive.

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Hi Dan,
?
Thanks for your reply, in the Rev 4 manual it states:
?

Your QMX is supplied with the bootloader installed, but not the firmware.?
?
Note: you have to switch on QMX by pressing the left rotary encoder shaft button! In firmware update mode, the LCD is blank and the backlight is off.
?
In the firmware update mode, the QMX pretends to be a USB Flash memory stick
?
?
So I don't believe I should be seeing anything on the screen till I install the firmware and it does seem that the device should be recognized as USB storage. Unless I am wrong about either of these points...
?

Re: JS8 no transmit

It looks like the audio is recognized, which is good. You should have transmit audio source set as data. I always use the Kenwood TS-440s as the radio, then click the CAT, then the PTT button twice to make sure it's working and the port is open.

Re: QMX mid band not being seen by my computer on initial power up

Correction: QMX+ comes with firmware installed. QMX comes without firmware installed and will show up as a USB Flash drive ready to copy in the firmware file. All assembled radios of all types always have the latest production firmware tested and adjusted.?

Re: QMX and WinLink/WARA HF settings

I tried your settings Stan. Nothing changed ( Still very low TX power. But when I use PC dynamic to transfer audio instead of QMX in VARA settings, then everything is OK. PC sounds very loud and my QMX microphone works OK and TX is 4 Watts. PC audio levels are 100% everywhere.
What should be audio input level on VARA monitor? I mean the left scale. Is it ok if its level is around -32 Db when I accept some HF signal from gateway channel? Or it should be higher?

JS8 no transmit

I just wanted to activate JS8 and cont get it to transmit. WSJT-x is working so basically I would thing the setting is ok JS8 is decoding so that looks ok as well
i tried? to play with modes with no change. Any Ideas ?

Mike,
I do not know what module you are referring to.
I have just checked with a uBlox M7 and find I cannot get uCenter to permanently change the baud rate. After a cold start it goes to 9600.
I seem to remember I found that before...
It does save NMEA sentence configuration.
In the past I have used a backup battery which will save configurations.
Perhaps there is a uBlox group somewhere? Might give some clue.
Although others seem to have the problem question/0D52p0000ACTja8CQD/how-can-i-permanently-change-baud-rate
Maybe some things are stored on-chip, others in flash.

the old NMEA 0183 standard for the TinyTraker3 APRS units.
I can use the UBlox u-center25.03 and everything I receive and send from it appears to work, telling me that the RS232/TTL interfaces that I try are correct. However, going into Messages View - UBX - CFG - PRT - TragetUART1 (or any other) setting BAUDRATE to 4800 and hitting the Send button makes NO CHANGE (EVER). It stays at 9600 Baud!
Is there another way to try this and make the change permanent?

Re: QCX Screen Lines missing #qcxmini #qcx-mini

The problem is likely within the LCD display module but worth trying some gentle heat and rubbing with a finger on the display surface before ripping it apart?
