Re: QMX+ T507

I'm building a QMX+ and will get to that stage in a day or two but I really doubt that the PCB wiring is incorrect.? I checked some of the connections round T507 and it seems fine.
I've always considered that the wiring instructions for T507 to be totally clear - wind the two transformers one on each side of the binocular core and connect using the holes that seem obvious but people do seem to have the ability to misinterpret this.
?
T507 is wired as two separate 10:1 transformers, one through the upper hole of the binocular core, the other through the lower hole.
Holding the board with the RF output in the lower right corner the T507 connections are two vertical rows of 4 holes just to the left of the RF BNC:
  • The top pair of holes are used for the ends of the upper 10 turns of the upper transformer.
  • The upper centre pair of holes are used for the 1 turn wire for the upper transformer, this comes straight from the upper centre left hole to the upper centre right hole, through the upper hole of T507.
  • The lower centre pair of holes are used for the 1 'turn' wire for the lower transformer, this comes straight from the lower centre left hole to the lower centre right hole, through the lower hole of T507.
  • The bottom pair of holes are used for the ends of the lower 10 turns of the lower transformer.
?
Hope that helps, if you have a problem then photos showing exactly what you have done will be useful.

Re: QMX+: quick exit from menu system?

Hi Bruce

Good idea, I can add that no problem. I suggest use of the normal exit button... But a long press to get all the way out of the menu, compared to the normal many-presses to come up one level at a time.

Hi Sverre?

Yes no problem, I can add that to my list... Flashing S?

In operating the QMX+ with a non-resonant antenna and a manual tuner, it is unavoidable not to get the 'S' in the display to the right of the frequency from time to time. The 'S' just looks like some feature which has been turned on, but one quickly learns that it is an error message since the transmitter has shut down due to high SWR. By the way this is a very nice feature compared to e.g. the QDX and it has probably saved a lot of BS170's already.
?
But my wish is that the 'S' could be made more visible - for instance that it would blink on and off - thus alerting the operator that something is wrong.

Re: Possible QMX TX/RX switching race condition? #qmx #receiver #smoke

Hello Greg

As far as I'm aware there isn't any race condition. Something else must be at fault here. The TX line is deactivated and after some short delay, RX is activated. And vice versa on key down.?

Having recently had the receiver mux chips be destroyed seemingly without any other failure of the switching circuit controlled by Q508, I'm wondering if there is a potential race condition such that the transmitter "switch on" code may be reachable without the receive switch pin on the microcontroller being pulled low.
?
I assume that transmit is almost certainly gated behind a command changing that pin state, but I'm wondering if there's a machine code level race condition that would let the transmitter operate without that pin being guaranteed pulled low?
?
Just a thought, as this seems like a strange failure mode.

Re: QMX+ T507

The wiring is correct in the assembly manual.
It is not uncommon to forget to install the jumper in JP501 (shown in the diagram at the bottom of pg 36), which connects the BNC to T507 output.
It is also not uncommon to have soldering issues installing T507, making sure the enamel is fully cleaned from the windings for a good connection.

Re: #qmx #SSB Firmware beta 1_01_003 release #qmx #ssb

One new quirk I found on 1_01_003:
In the terminal interface, when you exit from the Diagnostics screen, it now changes the band in the QMX VFO, rather than leaving it set to whatever it was before entering Diagnostics.

Most of them happen immediately.? That was the intent.
By experimentation, I have found that a couple of them still require you to exit to a higher level menu before they take effect, in this 03 version:??
- VOX, it won't operate after turned ON if you are anywhere in the Configuration menu; must exit to main menu.? So you also can't see the effect of its threshold and holdtime parameters.? (this is probably a bug)

QMX+ T507

Can anyone confirm the wiring to the PCB is correct in the assembly manual ? Fired up my new QMX for the first time and was somewhat upset that everything was working but no signals were passing to or from the antenna. tracing the signal path back from C445 to the antenna socket I found nothing passing through T507. Sure that it was correctly but removed it temporarily? and jumpered across. Rig is working perfectly now but without SWR protection until I rewind the transformer. Looks as if the PCB was reworked in that area because there is nowhere to put the leftover capacitor lead link, Ha Ha .

Re: Available Hand Mics for QMX SSB ?

I can print them faster than I can assemble them. I have 3 3d printers at my disposal.
?
My biggest hold up is waiting for Amazon to send parts when I run out. Interestingly the bubble mailers that were supposed to come on Saturday never made it here, but the second set I ordered arrived today - so I was able to send out everything I had ready - which was all the kits that had been ordered and a little over half of the assembled versions. I should be able to catch up by the weekend and then be waiting for parts again. I can print the cases faster than Amazon can deliver the parts at this rate. :)

Re: Qmx Ssb intermittent transmit.

Howard,

Here is the?KobiConn parts number?from Mouser:? 161-5435-EX

As a TRRS Jack the following?pinout is expected.? See PDF drawing attached.

Pinout:
Contact A is Tip
Contact B is Ring 1
Contact C is Ring 2 (no contact - unless you want to wire as a TRRS Jack for a standard CTIA TRRS Headset)
Contact D is Sleeve (the longest Terminal)

If?you want to wire it for the CTIA TRRS Headset (US Standard and most of the ROW) then?
Sleeve is MIC+ (yes, that's correct)
Ring 2 is Headphone Common and Mic-
Ring 1 is Right Headphone
Tip is Left Headphone

Then you could run VOX with the TRRS headset.
Or add a second Jack wired: tip to PTT, Sleeve to?Ground.

It takes plenty of force to seat it completely, but it won't fall out on its own.

Re: Difficulty after loading ssb firmware beta 1-01-03 on QMX+

The strange thing is that this was a working QMX+ until I initiated the upgrade. Thinking back on
the procedure I did was:
?
Initiate upgrade from menu.
After QMX+ drive recognized by compute, go into file manager.
Select QMX drive.
Delete 1.00.27 image.
Copy 1.01.03 image into QMX drive.
Power down and re-power booting up 1-01-03.
?
Maybe I should not have deleted 1-00-27 first. Maybe that started the confusion.?
I’ll look at these things tomorrow?

thanks for your responses,

Re: Difficulty after loading ssb firmware beta 1-01-03 on QMX+

Hmmm...? sorry to hear that.?
I have upgraded 3 of my QMX, and downgraded 2 of them, and never encountered a problem with the receive audio.
So this is certainly not normal.
And yes, Factory Reset should reset all of the settings, so that shouldn't be the issue, either.
Is your audio gone regardless of which mode?? (CW, Digi, SSB)?
And it makes random pulsing noise but no signal reception?
Is this QMX+ a rev1, rev2, or rev3?? This sounds almost like a PCM1804 problem, but that should be rare on a rev2 or rev3.? And shouldn't have anything to do with a firmware update.
I recommend you use the terminal to do an Audio filter sweep, RF filter sweep, and Test ADC I/Q (for one selected band, with dummy load attached).? The results of those sweeps should give us a clue.

If you make a parameter change in the terminal, say turn off CESSB, is the change immediate or do you have to exit terminal mode or exit the sub menu?

Re: Difficulty after loading ssb firmware beta 1-01-03 on QMX+

I failed to mention that a did a factory reset in both versions and that no stations can be heard through
the receiver. The menus are completely traversable. My gut makes me think that the stored settings are?
now corrupt and confusing the the two firmware versions. I would think that a factory reset would
default the settings according to it’s respective version, in both parameters ordering and values.

Re: Available Hand Mics for QMX SSB ?

If you want help printing the cases I can make a few.

Maybe a conflict with one of your settings?? (there shouldn't be such a thing, but there are still unknowns in the new version...)
Try a Factory Reset, which will restore original factory settings.
Note that updating firmware keeps existing settings intact, so doing a 'factory reset' may help either firmware version.
