Re: Qmx Ssb intermittent transmit.

Do you have the mouser part number?

I have been able to Tx with good audio after re-running phase, and USB calibrations before messing with the band configs. Plots looks strange, but "it works"!? I did end up leaving Freq Center slightly adjusted, but all others the same.??

Re: Continuity on #RWTST - #RWTST #QMXplus

Meant to include.
?
This method worked equally well for the two wires twisted together, as on the transformer, as it did with a single wire.

Re: Continuity on #RWTST - #RWTST #QMXplus

I’ve been using my Weller WSD81 station set at 375C and a 1.6mm chisel bit with great success.
I've built quite a few QRP Labs kit, with last week a QMX+ and a QMX 20-10. On previous builds I’ve had to scrape the 0.6mm wire, heating just wasn’t good enough. But with the 0.33mm was easy.
What I found was the best way was to cut the wire a bit shorter, perhaps 6mm in excess of what’s needed to go into the pcb, then start the iron right on the cut end where the copper is exposed. Then work the solder blob up to the desired place. This works much better and faster than trying to burn the enamel mid way.

Re: Continuity on #RWTST - #RWTST #QMXplus

I've just started building my QMX+ kit and what I found was that I needed an indicated temperature of 440C to burn the enamel off. My normal 380C barely touched it.? I'm using a WEP 926 LED soldering station.? I'd like to use a little less and will be experimenting as the toroid saga continues.
?
FTAOD this is with the 0.33mm wire supplied in the kit.

Re: #qmx #SSB Firmware beta 1_01_003 release #qmx #ssb

Hello Hans! Looks like there is a bug with SWR measurement during usage of PA. QMX detects very high SWR during TX threw PA and stops it (if protection is switched on). In reality SWR is 1.1 (confirmed by Hardware test of QMX itself + Nano VNA).?

Re: QMX+ External Mic #qmx #ssb

Menu -> SSB -> Input -> Ext. Mic
?
But it sounds like your mic cable is wired backwards.? Mic signal needs to go to ring, ptt to tip.

QMX+ External Mic #qmx #ssb

Just updated my QMX+ to 01_01_003 Beta. Plugged a modified Baofeng mic into the front panel and tried running the microphone test. It doesn't seem to work.
?
I can tap on the front panel, and that seems to get a bit of a response, but the mic is dead. Also, in USB/LSB mode, PTT doesn't switch to transmit. Hardware diagnostics indicate that the mic's PTT switch is working. Can see that the diagnostic notices the mic's FET...
?
Unplugged and powered the mic from 10V through a 2K resistor. I can see audio with my scope, so that looks like it's working.
?
Is there a setting I need to change, for the external mic to work?

Thanks Evan and Nate!

I found the threads and an answer of Hans in an older conversation:
My Bpf simulation is too simplistic.
Impedance and the environment have a big influence.

Re: Continuity on #RWTST - #RWTST #QMXplus

I would guess that 100% of the QRP Labs kits are shipped
with some manufacturer's thermaleze equivalent wire.

I would further guess that a very, very small contingent
in this group would use their own wire over the wire provided
by QRP Labs with their kits... I am one of that contingent,
but only because I use a toroid winding machine, and filling
my winding machine's shuttle from short hanks of wire is a
chore.

But you are right, if you use something exotic, such as a
ceramic insulated wire, my tip about using a common lighter
won't work.

You may not know it, so I will help you: You are using an
exotic wire. I will jump out on a limb and say that most QRP
Labs kit builders, aren't.

My experience is different, Chuck.? A simple roll of wire (certainly
not exotic) I bought on Amazon from a quality manufacturer happens to
have a high-temperature enamel.? So yes, I can burn it off, but only
with with a high-temperature butane torch, but not a simple butane
lighter flame nor any soldering temperatures. Other wire types do
have enamel that is specially formulated to burn off with solder or
at low temperatures - you can often see it in their specs. The .6
wire that Hans originally provided is somewhere between the two - if
I didn't scrape it at least some amount, to significantly fracture
its surface, it wouldn't burn off for me with soldering nor a simple
lighter flame.? And I don't like to use a high-temperature torch.

Re: Continuity on #RWTST - #RWTST #QMXplus

I started from scratch and got it working. As everyone suggested, I needed to do a better job removing the enamel from the P wires. Additional heat did the trick. Thanks everyone!

Re: QMX SSB settings for Winlink?

Hm, thanks Stan. I ran the auto calibration the other night so that's fresh. I can reliably get level 5-10 on receive, but it doesn't seem to get out of level 1 or 2 on transmit.

None of the mic-gain/agc/filter settings pertain to the USB / Winlink interface (assuming the software is as documented).
Only the phase and amplitude modulation compensation should make a difference - and I have it at pretty much default settings.

A lot of the speed will depend on quality of your connection (propagation).? I just connected again, with about 1W of output power, which is all it would give me on 40m SSB.? The speed/level varied a lot during the send of a large email -- it spent a lot of time at level 6 and down a notch at level 5, but several packets went out at level 7 and 8 (and some at 4 and 3, too).
?
So it is working for me...

Re: QMX SSB Vertical lines on VARA waterfall?

No, it doesn't necessarily happen every time the radio keys, but it does seem to happen at least once per VARA/Winlink session.

Re: Simulation of #QMX Filters + planned 6m in QMX #qmx

Peter,?
I recall some discussion about this in QDXs maybe in the past...and some thought that the impedance is NOT 50 ohms, and/or, not acting like it on that input.......?
Keep us posted with what you are able to do.... I've figured out that one could cover all bands 160-6 with the 6 band setup screen as far as generating the signals.... but the filtering for BPF and LPF would require a whole separate set of filter boards....And thus the QMX+ :-)

Re: mic test doesn't scroll up

When I use screen in Linux, sometimes the terminal window is slightly out of shape and the mic tests does what you're describing.

Hi Peter,
?
Here is an LTSpice XVII simulation for the QDX High-Band filters. I've included a PDF printout in case you don't have LTSpice.

mic test doesn't scroll up

This probably some configuration with my terminal emulator.
?
When running the mic test I get the bottom row. However, it does not scroll up. So I don't see the history covered on the beta firmware page.
?
I've tried a factory reset. I'm wondering if anyone has this issue and knows how to resolve it.

Re: New Build, No Flash Drive found #build #building #qmx

Hi Russ and Stan.? thanks for the support.? I do seem to have proper resistance between VCC adn VDD and ground.? I have ordered new boards (and in fact a whole new QMX kit just in case).
I also detected a poorly connected leg of the binocular T507 transformer.
?
Hoping I didn't cook the entire radio, but will have to wait for the new boards.? I have successfully built the QCX mini and the (tr)uSDX, so crossing my fingers that I didn't fall apart on the QMX
?
Thanks again for your answers.

Re: #qmx #SSB Firmware beta 1_01_003 release #qmx #ssb

I agree that would have been easier... but it's done now LOL... I agree, if I need to do it again, that's the plan.

I am happy to report that the quadruple BS107 transplant seems to have been successful :)
?
Running the calibration now... hoping for the best.
