Re: Initializing:Enable SI5351A
Mine did that recently too.

Just shutdown everything and reconnected PD bank and trigger cable, USB cable, dummy load etc. Have no idea why. Just did it once. GREG

Re: QMX+ with ~1000 tone on 12M & 6M
I have tried the dummy load with no change in symptoms.
?
Mike, your FT8 plot at least gave me a hint of how to 'see' the tone, HIHI.? I had to install WSJT-X on my little Raspberry and set it up ( piece of cake ) and now I can see mine, and it looks a great deal like yours.? Only on two bands HIHI.? Actually with the high end test using WSJT-X software, I can detect a tone on 10M as well.? But it's way down in the noise.? I may do some quick soldering around the filter parts, etc.? but the traces all look good on the bands in question so a bit of heat might rule out a bad connection.
I think the 1408 is the issue.? I am going to order a small quantity to see if I can change it myself.? On this radio it's pretty much out in the open, so should not be an impossibility.? There have been several notes on the soldering process to change out the 1408 so I am going to give it a try.? ?
I will report back when i find the issue.? It may take a while as I have to get components here, then find time to concentrate on the fix for a bit.? I am *very* slow on stuff like this.? It took me 7 months to build the QMX+ HIHI.

Re: nothing happening
Hanz, I don¡¯t have a QMX+ V1, but I¡¯m not convinced that you have interpreted the pinout of JP104 correctly. ?I think pin 6 should be ground, not pin 2, using the numbers you have added in the photo. You can always check for ground with your multimeter in continuity mode, to the outer of your BNC connector.?
If you look at page 65 of your assembly manual there are instructions to force Bootloader mode by grounding aux 2. If successful this will make your QMX appear as a flash drive.? Also on the board layout on page 65 you should see JP105 right next to JP104. ?JP105 has the pins identified and is a good place to measure your supply rails, though the 5V will not be present in Bootloader mode. |

Well rats.

Honestly I'm out of ideas. I can't imagine why the Mac thought the Q was consuming too much power, as the USB on the QMX only uses the two data lines. No traces from the USB to anything else to my knowledge. Any chance you tried the set-to-bootloader with the temporary jumper steps? GREG

Re: Fldigi RTTY dropping PTT with QMX and QMX+
1. Make sure that TxID is turned off.? Its timing is incompatible with QMX current tone detection, and QMX will drop tx in the pause between the TxID and normal modem signal (happens in many fldigi modes, not just RTTY) - probably a QMX firmware bug, it is on Hans list to fix.
2. In fldigi "Config - Modem - TTY - Tx" turn off "Shaped Tx".? This conflicts with QMX's own shaping algorithm, and causes it to drop transmit.
I hope that helps...

Fldigi RTTY dropping PTT with QMX and QMX+
I¡¯m trying to use Fldigi RTTY and seeing the PTT dropping at the very beginning of transmitting text.
watching QMX output on my scope I see initial RF signal for less than a second and then output drops.?
I have configured Fldigi to use Hamlib with settings of PTT via hamlib command and RTTY is USB mode. If I click on tune in Fldigi upper right corner, it enables PTT for duration that I keep it set.
I am sure this is a configuration issue but I don¡¯t know what it is. Any ideas?
?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: May the Morse Be With You
Hello.
?
I am returning to ham radio after more than 40 years away. In order to regain some proficiency in CW I have purchased the device referenced in this URL. I am very pleased with it and it is a great assist for me. Plus it's fun. I offer this purely as an informational pointer. To clarify - I have no interest whatsoever in the marketing of this or other ham radio related devices.

Re: Computer not connecting to newly built QDX
It could be a defective, since you seem to
have the right cables and are?
confident in your assembly. Contact QRPLabs!
?
Good suggestion, George! Here is my tester in action confirming tha both power and data are connected.
?
You got me to thinking that I had ASSUMED the connections were made! Bad idea to assume anything, especially in trouble shooting! Thanks!

Re: nothing happening
Is there a possibility that the bootloader is damaged?
The first few times i have seen the qmx drive come up but it was closed by the MAC due too much power.
At one time i tried to copy the new firmware but on that moment the mac closed again the USB port.
After that i see never the qmx drive again.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNot that it makes much difference in the scheme of things, I have built the last three QMX+ kits using .40mm wire (AWG 26) for all windings. For me it is easier to handle, I have it on spools in different colors, and as far as I can see,? works just fine.? No performance issues that I have experienced.? YMMV! Cheers es 73's Joe K8FC |
