Re: 60m Band tuning is broken, or not?
I can see why it might be defaulting to the channelized scheme; In the US we are not allowed to VFO across that band and must stick to channelization since we are secondary users on what is primarily a government allocation for us.
?
There have been a couple of attempts for US hams to petition to change for more channels and/or VFO operations but that but it is complicated because amateur radio in the US is regulated by the FCC but government operations is regulated by NTIA (National Telecommunications Information Administration) and the two agencies do not play well with each other.
?
Much of the rest of the world has a much more 'relaxed' view of the 60 meter band.

Well, it was hard to confirm visually, and I was unable to recreate the fault on the bench, but this may have been the source of trouble. I removed the solder from the 20m hand-wound inductor leads, gently scraped at the enamel with an X-acto knife blade, and then resoldered each one. (I did one lead at a time this way, so the inductors would not fall off the board!)
A follow-up SOTA activation was successful on 20m, so crossing fingers that it's now fixed. Until I test it in colder weather I won't be sure however. |
Re: 50W power amplifier initial power up.
Hi Guys
?
Thank you for the data.
?
The two replies are close enough to provide sensible guidance.
?
I am going to use a repurposed lipo tool battery. Ie 21 V fresh off the charger and 18.5 V for most of the discharge cycle.
?
I will use a couple of diodes in series between 21V and 20V to burn off the excess.
?
I will set the bias for 20 V.?

All, I posted a while back when I finished my mid band ver 4 qmx that my backlight was not working and assumed it wouldn't really bother me. After using it for a while now it would be nice to have the backlight since most of my radio time is in low light.
?
So can anyone tell me what the specs are for Q301 on the display board, above the right corner of the lcd. Mine was knocked off during shipment I assume and I would like to try to replace it with something to see if I can get my backlight working. Thanks. |

Thanks, Roman. My QMXs suffer from the same issue. Looks like an easy fix.?

Re: QMX+ debug
After a great deal of searching I think I have a conclusion - albeit something I can't rectify.
?
Fault was 0.8R between VDD and 0V. Never tested until construction was complete but have to assume this was not the case on leaving the factory.
?
Every component between VDD and ground checked and double checked - no joy.
?
As a last resort, and after much heat from the rework station (on 420deg and max airflow) and much chipquik flux the STM32 MCU has been lifted off the board and the short has gone - VDD to 0V now measures ~9k.
?
I have no hope of getting a replacement fitted so the board is now scrap.
?
I'd love to know what people think went wrong, feeling somewhat disappointed ?.

Re: A couple of issues noted with latest .23 firmware
For the fluctuating VSWR reading, did that happen to occur right after hitting a high SWR lockout? ('S' displayed next to the VFO frequency)
?
I've found that that random fluctuation happens both when the lockout has occured and you go directly to the antenna tune menu item (without going to menu and back to the VFO screen to clear the lockout), or when you try to tune with the keyer set to practice mode.
