Re: QMX Power on/off loud pop
This is the innovation that I'm here for.? Hans, you are a treasure. -- Matt N3AR On Sat, Aug 3, 2024 at 11:45?PM Hans Summers via <hans.summers=[email protected]> wrote:

Thanks, Roman. My QMXs suffer from the same issue. Looks like an easy fix.?

Re: QMX+ debug
After a great deal of searching I think I have a conclusion - albeit something I can't rectify.
?
Fault was 0.8R between VDD and 0V. Never tested until construction was complete but have to assume this was not the case on leaving the factory.
?
Every component between VDD and ground checked and double checked - no joy.
?
As a last resort, and after much heat from the rework station (on 420deg and max airflow) and much chipquik flux the STM32 MCU has been lifted off the board and the short has gone - VDD to 0V now measures ~9k.
?
I have no hope of getting a replacement fitted so the board is now scrap.
?
I'd love to know what people think went wrong, feeling somewhat disappointed ?.

Re: A couple of issues noted with latest .23 firmware
For the fluctuating VSWR reading, did that happen to occur right after hitting a high SWR lockout? ('S' displayed next to the VFO frequency)
?
I've found that that random fluctuation happens both when the lockout has occured and you go directly to the antenna tune menu item (without going to menu and back to the VFO screen to clear the lockout), or when you try to tune with the keyer set to practice mode.

Re: QMX Power on/off loud pop
Hi Dave Ah yes you're right. I didn't think that far ahead. I only have one PIR sensor and planning a location for it. But as you said, we also need to know the incoming speed. So this would require two PIR sensors, strategically placed at a known separation distance. And a few lines of BASIC script to calculate the speed and provide an estimated time of arrival, sent to the earphones in CW. Then we'll know how much time we have, to hide. BASIC scripting will be a great facilitator, for many things.? We're stronger together.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Sun, Aug 4, 2024, 11:06 wcampbell via <wcampbell=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Is it possible to run the QMX without the SMPS boards?
I'm running my QMX with home made power supplies that replace the SMPS power controllers, these use two TO220 sized linear regulators.? It all works except that I don't have the power on/off control.
?
I've built this on strip board to fit where the SMPS controllers fitted.
?
The only down sides are that it takes more power and gets a little warm, neither are show stoppers for me

#qmx
Great that you found out and shared it.
But I'm surprised that this standard measure isn't included in the original design. Software hides many hardware problems, but it doesn't fix them. Keyword contact bounce |
Re: QMX Power on/off loud pop
Hi Dave
Not currently, unfortunately. But I think the best way to do this would be wait for when the BASIC scripting language is implemented. Then install a hidden PIR sensor somewhere on the XYL's route to your shack, connected to one of the GPIO pins in the QMX/QMX+. On activation it should cause a short "XYL Warning" to be sent to your earphones in CW. If the PIR sensor is strategically placed at a sufficient distance from your shack, it should give you enough warning time to be able to hide before she reaches the shack. 73 Hans G0UPL |
Re: 50W power amplifier initial power up.
Hello Chris, ? My inexpensive DVM shows 11mA at the supply voltage of 11.0V and 21mA at 20.3V. These values may not be very accurate, but the current consumption in the receive mode is very low ¨C the bias current for for two PIN diodes in the receive path, D3 and D5, and the green LED, D11, mostly. ? I hope your amplifier will perform well. ? 73, Aki, JO4MTH |
Re: Straight key setup on QMX+ FW23
Hi Roger There's a bug report open, that the "tip" and "ring" are reversed on the straight key setting. So for now try "ring" as the straight setting even though you've got a mono plug (means it ought really to be "tip"). See if that works? 73 Hans G0UPL On Sun, Aug 4, 2024, 03:47 Roger Hill via <rhill=[email protected]> wrote: Should have said...mono plug. |
