Re: SDR with the QMX
IIRC, from QDX FW V1.04? and onward to QMX, when IQ mode is selected *raw data* from the stereo ADC is sent to the PC sound card via USB. Raw data...no demodulation, and no conversion to a 12KHz IF.? As I recall, Hans eliminated the 12KHz IF conversion only in IQ mode as it was creating confusion for users of SDR applications. JZ KJ4A? Hi Derek It's a known (and as yet unresolved) issue with?the clock firmware which hasn't had an update for a while; it was originally written with earlier GPS units but the QLG2 GNSS receiver module receives multiple satellite constellations (by default, US' GPS and China's Beidou). The clock firmware only reads?out and parses the NMEA sentence for the GPS satellites, it ignores Beidou. But the display on your GPS kit itself, is reading and displaying all the satellites.? So don't worry about it - you didn't do anything wrong, it's just (another) issue on MY plate.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Tue, Mar 19, 2024 at 4:35?AM Derek NZ0P <gx1400@...> wrote: I have an LCD on a QLG-2 currently feeding a Clock kit. |
Re: QMX Hi Band Noise Problem
Dan, I advise that you try again to get some confirmation that you have isolated the problem before replacing? the stereo ADC, as every repair or mod intervention poses a risk of damaging the radio. Hi Hans,
? Thank you!? That fixes the signal I thought I was getting.? It's been driving me a bit nuts.? I guess I should have messed with the software a bit more before jumping to the conclusion that I was having a hardware issue.? Again, thank you. 73 - Jacob Riley KD0OIR |

Hi Jacob It's not the radio. It's the WSJT-X configuration. Look for a checkbox below the waterfall called "Flatten" and un-check it. Flatten is a WSJT-X feature to flatten the passband of radios having imperfectly flat passbands. It is not needed on QMX which is perfectly flat already.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Tue, Mar 19, 2024, 7:09?AM Jacob Riley <jriley@...> wrote: Hello, |
QMX first power up
Hi All,
I got the QMX in a kit, assembled it over a couple days and finally was able to do some basic testing today. Here are the results into a SWR meter and into a dummy load. Powered with bench supply at 9V and started current limit at 250mA and slowly bumped up to 1.25A. Band - Freq - Forward Power - Total QMX Power 80m -? ?3.55 MHz -? ?4.80W -? ?8.3W 60m -? ?5.357 MHz - 5.05W -? ?8.6W 40m -? ?7.075 MHz - 4.45W -? ?7.8W 30m - 10.125 MHz - 5.23W -? ?9.0W 20m - 14.074 MHz - 3.97W -? ?7.8W Kit was built for 9V. From what I can tell this looks fairly respectable. 20m could probably be a little higher but honestly I don't know if I want to mess with it. Now I just need to figure out a battery :) Any suggestions would be great. I've looked at using a 12V to 9V converter. I've also looked at the bioenno 9V battery, but this seems like it might be too high as it'll go up to almost 10V or more. I've also looked at using a 2S or 3S lipo battery but not sure I want to go thru that much of a headache. But I am up for a challenge if the price is right. Any overall W rating for the QMX I should be targeting for fuse? Thanks, Travis |
QDX High Band - Noise around the tuned frequency
#qdx
#troubleshooting
Hello,
? I have a pre-built QDX transceiver, built for the high bands at 9v.? Trouble is that in WSJT-X it shows a constant spike of noise just off the tuned frequency, no matter the band I select.? I have tried moving the radio, no effect so it's not localized noise.? The noise is there on AC power and battery, so it's not the power supply, and it appears on multiple computers so I'm sure it's not the computer.? Attached is a screen shot of the issue.? At this point I'm 90% sure the issue is with the transceiver itself.??? Anyone have any ideas? ?? Thank you, |
Re: IFTx and Apple Phones Saga
I just tried it again on 40 m. Initially had an issue with no transmitting but a unplug replug of the?cable to the iphone fixed it. Worked a couple of QSos with output of 6 w at 12.4 volts. Phone is iphone 14. ?Maybe your phones audio output is low? I thought there was an?indication on the QMX for that.?

Re: First power up; QMX "Flash drive" not appearing?
I narrowed the issue down to the 5v smps board. Even though I could not see anything wrong under much light and a 10x loupe, I reflowed some solder joints on the various SMD components, which brought the rig to life. I was able to flash in the .017 firmware and am now in business.

Hi Jay & Don,
I have ferrites on USB cables . Neglected to say I am on V17 software, VOX on,? Tried dummy load and still get clicking during transmission when I go into xmit ( antenna end fed,? have line? isolator on each of them). Transmit is interrupted 10-15 times per FT8 xmit cycle. However output (4W) stays on longer with isolator. Tried different voltages, usually run 11 volts from battery, tried 11.5 vdc without luck , same clicking heard. When I tried 12 vdc unit stopped After several minutes more? of testing at 11 volts? QMX just stops trying to go into xmit . When allowed to cool off it returns to weird clicking during CQ cycle. When reinstalling? back? WSJT-X? software QMX works wonderfully. Can I assume both of you operate iFT-x QMX successfully? your thoughtful comments are appreciated. K2OI |

Maybe I am missing one of your settings?
Perhaps.? I made a little video showing the settings and showing FT8CN working as expected with my QMX.Note the OTG adapter shown in the video was required for it to work for me. I'll leave the video up for a few weeks but will eventually have to delete it to make room on my Google Drive. 73, Mike KK7ER |
