Hi Evan?
It is a short! ?- Erkki OH6NMY |
BS170 FETS burnt out - all applicable kits.
开云体育Had this happen to my QDX the other day.? Lots of smoke!? The QDX had been working for weeks.? This time was my normal setup – on 30m into random wire tuned by Kanga Kits Transmatch. Good SWR and no changes to aerial since previous use. ? The white is thermal compound which has run with the heat and the solder on top left FET has melted so it was pretty hot in there. ? Anyone else had this? ? ? ? regards ? Peter Allgood ? Allgood Technology Ltd, Telford.? Tel 01952 677145 ? -- 73 de Pete G8RXZ |
Re: New QMX build dead on start up.
N1BS,
A replacement board is $85.? A complete kit without enclosure is $95.? Purchasing only the board does not make sense, as you must remove all the soldered-on devices to use the new board.? I would buy a new kit.? The cost of the boards is justified in my mind.? Hans has to do the QC, bootloader install, packaging, and tracking.? Everything except add the miscellaneous parts to the package.? The extra effort needs to be paid for.? Remember that the most expensive parts (other than the display that sells for less than $7 on Amazon for a single display and much less when more than two are purchased)) are installed on the board at the factory. The one replacement part that potentially makes sense to offer is the MPU, depending on the price.? Since it requires special tools on both sides of the purchase, I doubt there will be much potential for that option.? I can do some SMD work, but I do not have the skills (yet) for the larger SMD components like the MPU. 73 Evan AC9TU |

Replacement boards are available from QRP Labs. --n1bs On Mon, Jan 29, 2024, 6:11 AM Rowan G0KLH via <rowan.griffin=[email protected]> wrote:

Ingo,
Why are you using chmod on the serial device? This is not the way to go, because firstly, it is only valid for the current session until you logout or power off, and secondly, the serial device name can change dependant on what other USB devices you have plugged in. The correct thing to do, is to add your username to the dialout group for a permanent solution. 73 Dave. -- David Thomas M0OOR |

Re: New QMX build dead on start up.
Hi Mike?
Thanks fer reply. No, did not load firmware because it appeared dead. I was expecting at least a blinking cursor?? ?Unless i missed it, a mention that there would be no display until FW loaded would have been a key piece of info to include in the instructions. Maybe if I was less of a boat-anchor operator I would have known that. Unless someone can tell me where i can pick off the missing side of the trace, I just don't think I am capable of repairing the board. Does anyone know if that board is available?? FF |

Good morning Rob, I deactivated the SWR protection because according to the QMX it was always high despite using single band antennas which all have 1/1.5 of calibrated SWR which I use every day from the car, with the tuner it's ok, yesterday I tried again and it transmits well, I always have the problem that before starting a transmission I have to check the SWR of all the bands and then it transmits perfectly, yesterday I also fried the qlg2 by reversing the polarity :-( now I have to be able to repair it. Thanks and good luck day. Giuseppe iu8eun Il Dom 28 Gen 2024, 10:30 <ha7rja@...> ha scritto: Giuseppe, did you check whether there is an 'S' displayed after the VFO frequency? If so, the SWR protection has kicked in and you have no power. |

Ingo, ? When you run under linux, one of your best friends is "sudo dmesg". It will shows info you kernel has when connecting a device. 2 terminals -- 73 Lex PH2LB? |

Hi Frank,?
You didn't mention that you had loaded the firmware? If not, that sounds like a normal first power up to me.? Until you flash the firmware the display doesn't work.? The diode repair looks tricky but not impossible.? If you can find where that trace comes out you may be able to replace it with a thin wire.? Good luck.? 73, Mike KK7ER? |

New QMX build dead on start up.
Howdy
Just finished my QMX and after long inspection tried to power it up on 8 volts but nothing happened. No display, no magic smoke...nada. I felt around the radio, and noticed that the 3 header power board was warm so I took the radio apart to look for problems. I desoldered the six pin socket because the little circled trace looked like a short.? That's when I noticed that D103 was just hanging from the back of the pcb. Anyway when D103 came loose, it took one side of the pad with it, so I could not re-solder it. Not sure that D103 was the reason for non-op but I need help replacing the board and some trouble shooting. What do you recommend Thx Frank KF6HF |
Re: QSX project??
Hi all! I truly appreciate John's question since I fall into the old timer newcomer who was wondering the same thing when I first noticed it and wondered with great curiosity plus the same anticipation.? I like Adrian's explanation about QMX maturation.? That is because I recently went back through the messages (After my daughter and I built the v.5 QDX low-band release) and I noticed while there are already more QMX questions than QDX-low questions, I think.? And a similar OCX those are less than OCX mini.? I am convinced that nearly the same is happening in the QMX versions.?? . I am also appreciating Andrew's post because it is reflecting my above conclusions.? Thinking also about Andrew's tall order concept.?? From all the responses to John's original question, Hans seems to have a method in working up to a QSX.? The QSX mini has two boards?? It is fit into a smaller case than the QSX.? The QDX low and high along with the QDX-like single band transceivers- in that series the only thing left is to include all band or to collect the single bands that have sold the best into a single project.? The two QMX series are working out details along with others.? The one-man Hans' show has a lot on his plate for the moment.? Having this message board is genius with the level of help availed by other members.? The QCX was one step, and everything so far has given some building blocks needed for his QSX.? Well, I am surely impressed.? I'm only using the QDX low band model (Revision 5!)? of everything designed and sold here.? It is a load of work.? I'm not trying to be so anxious anymore.? Who wouldn't want to support Hans' QSX dream?? ?I also hope to see that for myself.?? 73 Fellows, KY4XJ Paul
