#QMX - #JTDX drops on TX, WSJT-X works fine #JTDX #qmx

I gave JTDX a try with my QMX this morning with all the same settings I use for WSJT-X. But like I've seen reported for FLDigi and the Android JT8 software, JTDX goes into transmit for a second or so, then drops out of TX mode. I do have the output audio, PWR slider all the way up to the top in JTDX (like I do in WSJT-X). I'm using Kenwood 440s for the Radio setting in both programs.

Seems like others are using JTDX with their QMX just fine based on a search for JTDX on this forum.

Any suggestions on what I should do to get JTDX working with my QMX?

#qmx Aural warning needed for QMX SWR protection #qmx

The new feature in the QMX which locks out transmit when the SWR is too high is wonderful. It saves finals. But the only indication when it trips is the letter S showing just after the frequency. How about adding an aural signal via the sidetone to let us know it has tripped. A string of dots would be the obvious warning. Maybe others have a better idea. Again, thanks for a nice feature, Hans.

Re: SPAM Re: [QRPLabs] Brainstorm!

Andy,
I've made the same error. Much better to do that than to not tune the antenna!

Best one I did was during a CWT. I thought I was running 100 W into my vertical. I wondered why the bands were so dead, but I did make a few contacts with the Gulf coast from Pennsylvania. Turns out I was transmitting into my dummy load!

Re: Standalone keyer kit with same timing as QCX+

Some radios only support iambic mode B. I find this mode unusable; i guess I'm too old to be retrained. Thank goodness Hans let's us choose mode A or B. For my Icom 7300 I had to get the tiny Mortty keyer which supports mode A. It is Arduino based so if you are familiar with that environment you can make it do whatever you like.

Re: Best kit building solder ?

FWIW I have had good success with MG Chemicals solder from the "A" place.? Available is several sizes and quantities. and fluxes, as well as lead-free.? Prices are, as with everything currently, ridiculous currently, but I bought several spools before prices went ballistic.? As always YMMV!

Hi Bands on QDX Rev 3a board

Hi,
I'm *finally* assembling my QDX, which has been sitting for quite a while.
I've got a Rev 3a board, and I bought the Hi Band kit.
However, I notice that the instructions for the Rev 3a do not mention
the LPF's for high bands. Is there any reason that I can't just fit?
high band filters to a Rev 3a? Are there any other mods that need to be done
besides the different LPF's?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Best kit building solder ?

That solder, or the 63/37 alloy version, is an excellent choice.

Re: Standalone keyer kit with same timing as QCX+

I don't know how it compares to the QCX+ but I use the Pico keyer by HamGadgets.
I volunteer at a museum where we frequently put old tube radios on the air.? The dual MOSFET circuit works great - as long as you don't put it in a metal case as a common ground.? We have used it on several Heathkits, and a couple of Drakes.

I don't think this was about radios "that old" but thought I'd pass that along.

SWR issue on QMX

Somehow did the update to -10 firmware with the PWR and SWR displays and protection. Tried transmitting on 20 meters through a tuner that was set for low SWR and the QMX went full scale and shut down. Receive still works but no transmit.

The access to putty seems inop so no diagnostics.... the COM6 loads when the putty window shows but a error window shows no comms via COM6.

Anyone else experiencing this? Oh, yeah....before this xmt quit all together the swr could be lowered by retuning. The antenna can be tuned with a nanoVNA, the normal tranceiver on any QRP power setting and with the 50 watt amp but has to be tuned differently with the QMX. Tells me the SWR bridge or firmware not right.

I may go back to -9 firmware...

Re: QMX and flrig

The issue is that the QMX does not have a CAT command to set CW mode. Flrig would set it if the command was available. Please get ahold of Hans and ask him to add CW to the MD mode command which now only has USB or LSB as options.

Of course I can disable polling the mode and set it manually, but I would rather like to have the value correctly read. As transceiver setting I tried "QMX" as well as Kenwood "TS-440". Both show the same behaviour.

Perhaps it works for you, and I'm doing something wrong. Or might it be a bug on the flrig or on the QMX firmware side? Perhaps there is a better tool for this than flrig?

Re: QMX and flrig

I’m having the same issue, but with DXLabs running on Windows. I use DXKeeper plus the rig control module from that suite to keep the log aware of mode and frequency. It was great seeing the frequency track properly, but the log shows USB when I’m operating CW. I can click ‘CW’ on the control program and it immediately pops back to ‘USB’.

Jim, prepackaged attenuators are cheaper and better.

Re: #audio #qmx No headphone audio until I do FactoryReset? #audio #qmx

Gents,

I have found that when the audio output fails, the RF filter sweep in the diagnostics goes horrible. Here are two screenshots showing the same sweep before and after a factory reset. Notice the y axis values are really low when it's in the failed mode. Maybe this will help Hans find the problem.

I have an antenna that has its own manual match box. I use the same antenna with a KX2 and FT817 where there is a built in SWR meter to adjust for best match. For the QCX I made a simple SWR indicator kit because it was cheap and I was time limited to design one from scratch. You flick the switch to put the meter in line and it inserts a 6dB pad to help your TX into very bad loads whilst you tune up.

I've made a few QSOs on 20m from the QCX with the meter and pad in circuit when I've forgotten to switch it back to straight through. 1W CW on 20m is fine for working all over Europe. So leaving it in is not really an issue. ;-)

The same problem here... I hope for fix in following SW release.
