Re: QDX xmit one flash

I just tried JS8 Call. I'm still not getting any power out and seeing two flashes on the LED. I also got this error, which I have also seen in WSJT-X:

Re: No receive QMX

Hi Karl,

no, on my board c509 is fitted, sitting snuggly next to R510.

Re: QDX xmit one flash

Hey, Alan. Thanks for the info--you guided me over to it perfectly. It looks like the microphone permissions are set correctly for WSJT-X.

Re: QDX xmit one flash

Hey, Evan. So, two answers:

1: The wall wart says 2A. To be honest, I just assumed 2Ah, I think I just learned something. Thank you!

2: OMG...you got me a step closer!! I get about 5 watts displaying on my analog power meter that is part of my dummy load. This is the first time anything caused the needle to move!! Saying that, I'm still not getting any power out from within WSJT-X and I am still getting two flashes on the QDX' LED. I'm thinking I am still fighting an audio problem. I have no way of telling if I am receiving any audio via the QDX. I'm connected to a dummy load. I don't have an antenna here where I work.

Re: New QRP-Labs product idea? A QMX/QDX based digimode / cat interface?

WB2CBA's post did not include "CAT" - just PTT through VOX.?
If you are just interested in PTT, I'd suggest USB sound cards with GPIO.?
? ? A much simpler (resistor and transistor) PTT solution which is support by most digital applications.

The digirig-mobile DOES include real CAT control.?
With that your computer can control the freq/band and any other settings that are included in CAT commands (including selectable filters, etc.).
Very reasonably priced as well!
Only down side I see is that it appears the sound card input is mono.

I have an old MicroHAM USB Interface III from about 2008 which had sound card and CAT capability.? Not sure they are around any more.
I paid a lot of money for it!?I haven't used it in years.??Gave up on it when Windows stopped supporting the USB driver.
? ?I wonder if newer Windows versions would work with it.?
? ? I'll have to give it a try.

Wayne,

W10 here but try entering "microphone" in the search box.

Re: QDX xmit one flash

Wayne,

You stated, "I built my QDX for 9VDC and am running it with a 9VDC 2Ah wall wart power supply. "? Can you confirm that it is 2 amps and not 2 amperhours?? There is a difference as amperhours is the length of time that the battery will provide current depending on the amount of current drawn.? There is also a maximum current that the supply can deliver.? The best is to measure the voltage while the QDX is running.

Re: QDX xmit one flash

Hi Wayne,

I do not have a Windows 11 machine configured for WSJT-X operation.? They are all Windows 10.

I used my Rev1 QDX today to see if I could find similar issues to what you are reporting.? I did see the same problem.? To resolve it, I first verified that PuTTY could talk to the QDX.? At first, it did not, as the com port changed in the last Windows update.? If the com port is not configured correctly, WSJT-X does not start the waterfall and appears to have audio issues.? To get everything working again, I had to reload the QDX firmware and restart the PC first and then the QDX.? I verified the settings in WSJT-X, and everything worked.

So the steps I recommend are:
1 - Load the latest firmware (1_10) to the QDX
2 - Power off the QDX
3 - Reboot the PC
4 - Turn on the QDX
5 - Use Device Manager to verify the com port number
6 - Use PuTTY to verify transmitter operation
7 - Exit out of PuTTY and close the PuTTY window
8 - Start WSJT-X
9 - Set any values that may have changed (Comm port)
10 - Verify receive and transmit with WSJT-X

It took me a couple of resets to get the above to work.? Something in the last Windows update messed up the comm and audio settings.

NOTE: The QDX is fussy when connecting to Windows.? The PC must be on and connected when powering on or first connecting the QDX.? It has to do with setting the USB parameters.

Re: QDX xmit one flash

So, one other thing I checked based on other things I looked at in the forums related to my issue, is my input voltage. I built my QDX for 9VDC and am running it with a 9VDC 2Ah wall wart power supply. I checked the unloaded voltage and it reads 9.2 volts. Might is be possible the voltage is getting too low under load?

Re: QDX xmit one flash

Hey, Cliff. I'm not sure how to check that in Windows, either; although, everything I an see indicates the QDX soundcard is assigned correctly.

Roger, thanks for everything. I really do appreciate your trying.

QMX - What are my options?

I have been trying to get somewhere troubleshooting why my 12v QMX will not boot or show up as a USB device. I have checked the power supply boards, which seem to be working, and have followed all the steps others in here have done to try and get theirs working, and haven't gotten anywhere.?

What can I do at this point to get somewhere with this? Is there someone around that can provide some one-on-one troubleshooting guidance??

Blue screen of death U3s

All,
The other week my U3s stopped working, it coincided with a nearby thunderstorm. I had been tx'ing wspr and qrss at the time, noticed spots had ceased, checked U3s and just a blank blue screen, the QLG2 lights were all still blinking.
So far, replaced MCU with new one from Hans, changed screen in case this one had burnt out, listened to 27MHz crystal, checked all wiring secure. I have the OCXO fitted, this still heats up.?
I believe that the clock on the SI5351 chip on board the OCXO has stopped working, I will probe the outputs to the MCU and PA this weekend, presumably if the 5351A unit is toast then the mcu will not output any text to screen or output power. Filter relay board fitted.
There's very little that can go wrong on the U3s unlike some other kits, I did have the plain 5351A board but gave it away so unable to do a quick swap and check.
Other than the above any?thought's on other suggestions to look at.

Wayne,

I'm not a Windows guy, but in Linux sometimes the QDX soundcard can get assigned to the wrong device, such as HDMI or something of the sort and it has to be corrected to get it to work with the QDX.

I'm still thinking this is either a sound card problem (I know there isn't a separate sound chip; the sound card is embedded in the microcontroller) or some stupid and rediculous sound setting in my computer that I just can't find.

Re: QDX xmit one flash

Ok. Sorry Wayne. I am out of ideas, Windows is not my scene.

Maybe someone else can help.

Re: QRP antenna tuner?

I cannot recommend the ATU-100 Chinese look alike after having built one. If left in the automatic mode, it goes through a re-tuning cycle EVERY time you go into transmit mode even if you do not change the transmit frequency. As has been mentioned, there is no restriction on how bad the SWR can get during the tuning or retuning cycle. In the manual mode, you can step through the inductance values or the capacitance values. BUT if you change from one to the other, the setting of what you changed from will reset to zero. This has been my experience, but your results may vary,
