Re: QCX WARC Party - July 2023
Hi Nigel,
tnx for your reaction. Those QR codes ... long story ... it all started here So the codes refer to a page on my blog where I try to explain SOTA in simple terms that anyone can understand. Since then I have made the page in 5 languages, this is the English version (versions in Dutch - French - German - Spanish can be found on my blog if you look for January 2021 in the blog timeline on the right hand side) These codes are useful if you get questions from people about what you're doing, but you're in the middle of a pile up ... just point to the QR codes ... saying something like "sorry I'm very busy, but please scan the code and enjoy ..."? PS : I'm sure you have also? some nice SOTA summits in ZS land .. time to take your QCX rig up a mountain ;-) 73, Luc ON7DQ |
LunchboxesQCX
My QCX+ is ready for use.
Attention all enclosure fetishists: Do not look at the pictures! The QCX+, the 50W PA, an automatic antenna tuner, + Lipo battery in one box. The polypropylene box cost 1,90€. Everything works great, now I can continue to practice CW. :) The give works reasonably, when listening I am still dependent on the decoder. In the morning at five, alone at the breakfast table, I practice with the Morserino. Patience is announced. Now I will successively explore the many functions of the QCX+. Re: ub4 no gps lock
Dear Dave,
thank you very much for your reply, it works ! ? i did what you said? and the magic happened.? The only issue? left, is? although the GPS locks? when i run? the program? and? transmit on time etc,? ?The hardware test? will not work? and when i do? "q + r"? there is? nothing? there . running? the? program? again? -? it locks? again.? (even? with a dipole? near? the window.? ?(i just? disconnected from the? main? computer and? connected? it? to? a laptop? which? give? probably? less noise? to? the? GPS. probably? like you? said? the hardware test? need more? "power"? ?from? the satellites. i will need to take it? outside to check.. In the mean time? let? me? thank? you? for? all you? are doing? ?(and? Hans ),? on? behalf? of? ?all of? us.? Thank you Dave. 73, Daniel? ?M0HWD |
Re: ub4 no gps lock
Hi Daniel
I would suggest? you run the U4B transmit program first for 30 minutes info in the manual? and then do the hardware test ...? I would also suggest you put a 50 ohm resistor over the hf antenna pads while testing. In some cases the hardware test is difficult to lock and it is aided by using a bit of tinfoil under a piece of paper? with the U4B on top of the paper so the gps antenna could work more effectively inside the house.. just use a simple dipole antenna for the gps with legs about 47mm and in a vee shape. Re: LOW POWER OUT.
Hi Larry,
Please review the following video.? It is for the QCX+, not the QMX.? The principle applies.? You what to try adjusting the LPF inductors to see if you can optimize the power out: There is no class E amp in the QDX (the QDX is class D), so ignore the first part on adjusting L3.? The QMX uses 5 pole filters, so only two inductors can be adjusted.? The other point is that the LPF is shared for one or more bands.? You may have to choose between bands or find the middle power output.? The example is 20 and 30 Meters share the same LPF.? You can optimize for 20 or 30 or find the midpoint between the two. 73 Evan AC9TU |
LOW POWER OUT.
I built my QMX for 9 volts.
After the L401 jumper mod I kept the original number of turns and spread them out as much as possible.? The receive has improved but the transmit power is well below what the manual shows it should be.? 80M 4.0W 60M 4.1W not to bad but 40M 2.6W 30M 3.3W 20M 1.9W.? I've recounted all the wrap counts on the transforms all for good. I've rechecked all soldier connections. I also checked to be sure 20M pin was set to 30.? Has anybody else having this problem??? I know there is a lot of firmware upgrades in the future but don't know if any of these issues are firmware related. My test equipment is a old Fluke DVM. Looking for thoughts and ideas. TIA? QMX Receive Optimizing--Navigating the QMX
I've been following the discussions about improving the QMX receive sensitivity, and I have no problem admitting it's way beyond my comfort level. |

Not the problem as both Cliff and myself have the bias set at 30...

The band configuration screen that Hans showed for mod #2, shows only 5mA PIN bias on 20. That is wrong, it should be 30mA like all the other bands. |

Yes, I was referring to your suggestion to check the forward bias setting. |
