Re: Power Output
Could the PA modulator be used to adjust the max power on a band by band basis?? This is something that Hans would have to implement but is there any technical reason such as overloading the PA modulator that would prevent this?
?
I think that power control would be nice anyway and doing this on a band? by band basis would be a minor addition.

Re: Should I just go ahead and order a QMX+?
Hi Ken Currently we're shipping QMX+ with 1_00_027 (not SSB) while the SSB firmware is still so new and beta.? Firmware updates are extremely easy to install though. 73 Hans G0UPL On Sat, Mar 29, 2025, 08:52 KEN G4APB via <lfoofui.nbz42=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: QMX and WSJTX. audio problem
stupid but it took me some time to understand. The COM Port can only serve for one program so if you have i.e. a logging software running with the QMX WSJT-X will not connect to the QMX. In my case I have to start WSJTX before the logging software and then that won't connect to the QMX+ however WSJTX does report to the logging software if set up to do so. Also wone thing fooled me at one point. I got messed up with the audio settings and all of a sudden the QMX showed up as QMX...3 and not 2 so I had to change that in WSJTX. Also I had to set the Audio higher as the default 54 on most bands.

Don is correct? I know in the last couple of years I've made an important announcement at Dayton (2023 QMX, 2024 QMX+), please don't get used to it! I don't have capacity to do that every year.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Sat, Mar 29, 2025, 05:31 Don via <don308=[email protected]> wrote:

Hi
After installing an outboard LVDO voltage regulator (ND6T circuit) my QMX+ boots up to show "Initializing: Audio system" and doesn't respond any further.? Putty doesn't respond either.
I have used the 'forcing update method using wire jumpers' which allows me to reinstall the firmware but to no avail.? The QMX+ just reboots to the "Initializing Audio system" screen and goes no further.? I have installed an earlier version of the firmware 026, which installs ok but still just goes to the "initializing audio" screen.? I have also reinstalled the new 003 firmware but just the same problem.
If I remove power and press the right button before powering up, the first screen shows "Initializing: Setup EEPROM" before moving on to the "Initializing audio" screen and locking there.
I have checked the input voltage at 11.5V but I can't check much else.
Can anyone offer some advice on how to proceed from here please.? The QMX+ was working fine with the SSB upgrade until this happened.
Regards
Greg

Try turning on the EQ then set the EQ to +20. Listen on another receiver for a change. My QMX would start to get raspy at a setting below +14. I set mine at +20 (max) and it sounded pretty good. Then I set my mic gain to 63 and compression to 5. It definitely made a huge difference in quality on mine. It was distorted and virtually no power output. I was able to make a contact on it to Kentucky after I changed those settings.

Re: SSB Mike wiring?
You can get further on 3W than you might think, I was quite surprised.?
?
The PTT signal is already avaliable,? but needs configured.? There is no time line for the Basic code - I think you could likely get your favorite microcontroller set up on the dev card much faster.

SSB Mike wiring?
Hello!
?
?? Browsing the QRP-labs website, I was excited to find that Hans has released beta SSB software.? I immediately loaded it into my QMX+.?? After a few false starts, it was making power, using a Baofeng microphone from my UbitxV6.? I did have to make an adaptor becuause the tip/Ring wiring is opposite from my other radios.? The mic does behave well in the hardware microphone test.?
?
?I piped the output into my FTDX10 with a bunch of attenuation:? a 30dB 500W Bird, then two 20dB inline attenuators, then 18dB inside the '10.? It's recognizably SSB.? Once I got it attenuated enough so it wasn't overloading the radio, it looked nice & clean on the bandscope.
?
? Alas, with 3W output, I probably won't be making many SSB QSO's.?? What I need is to patch it into my homebrew 1kW linear.
It wouldn't drive the linear to full output, but it would make 300W or so, enough to play.
?
? To do that, I need the QMX+ to output a PTT signal and also a 4-bit Yaesu band code.
?
? I did buy the "dev" kit for the QMX+, it's in my junque somewhere.? But - what about the software?? Can't output that
4-bit code without software.? Hans did promise some sort of BASIC interpreter for the QMX, is there a timeline for that?
Can't hack the existing software because it's closed source & encrypted.? I suppose I could put another CPU in the box,
and patch into the band-choosing lines, but what a waste - there's a perfectly good CPU in there already.? Which surely
knows what band it's on.

For my test, I was watching the output on an oscilloscope.? It clearly turned off at the end of each test.? ?I didn't even glance at the front panel, so I can't say if the power meter there stuck on a non-zero value.
