Re: How much heat is "a lot"

OK, change in question: I managed to get the components soldered...but sure enough, the audio jacks are neither of them quite flat to the board. :-(

What's my best strategy for rework? Desolder them completely (if I can) and secure them properly with a rubber band or something next time?

QDX HB 20m RF filter sweep is very high

Just built my Rev 4 QDX HB (12V) after it has sat in the box for a couple years or more. Am doing initial testing. My RF filter sweeps look pretty good for all bands except 20m... there is actually a dip in the sweep at 20m, and it peaks at about 17.5 MHz. I see some old posts about this being relatively common but I didn't find any follow up.
Is this normal? Is there a fix that I am missing?

I am not a power supply expert, but from what I have seen, the efficiency seems to be more related to load current, with a broad peak and a shallow falloff, and fairly insensitive to input/output ratio, but typically above 90%.

Re: 180pf (181) Capacitor Needed

Dear Tisha AA4HA
There is a bubble wrapped envelope on the way to you first class mail with two 180 pf capacitors.?
I had two different styles so I sent you one of each.?? I think this will solve you capacitor problem.
The envelope should be delivered by Friday 9/27/2024.??
?
Hope they will work for you.??
Take care and have fun,

K indicates +/-10% tolerance.
J indicates +/-5% ?tolerance .

Nudging the turns on L404 one way or another should accommodate any variations in the cap value.

However since you have already measured the capacitance of the part as “pretty much 33 picofarads” it should probably be a non-issue.

The Capacitor for C402 is labeled '33K' instead of '330' or '33J'. It measures out pretty much at 33 picofarads, but the'K' apparently? may indicate a 10% tolerance vs others in the BOM that have the 'J' designator.

Re: QRP Labs Turkey Workshop?

I would definitely be interested, however I have as yet renewed my passport, I could plan for next year with the XYL. I would love to explore those ruins.

Re: #grounding #qmx #grounding #qmx

Here's the proper link to the USB cable that I use between my QMX and PC.
?
?
As I recall from other discussions on this topic within this group, the shield of the USB cable is not, by spec, supposed to connect to the ground side of both connected devices, which is surprising to the uninitiated. But many cable manufacturers do make that connection.

Hans, why must you tempt us, so?! :-D

Sadly, I think I'd need a lot more lead time to plan a trip like that from Minnesota! But that doesn't mean I didn't at least peek at flights...

The weather at this time of year is very nice, averaging?+26C midday in October without about 75% chance of pure?blue sky sunny days. If he built for 9V and ran from a "13.8" V supply, would that affect conversion efficiency? In general, how do changes in input voltage affect the efficiency of a typical buck/boost supply?

(Thanks for the info, too!)

Re: 3D Printing Source?

Another option is to try your library. Most these days have one if not several 3d printers. Usually incredibly cheap too. It's been a while since I checked but last I saw, ours was a few cents a gram of plastic used. Some may charge by time.?

Re: Removing flux. Is it necessary? Yes/No

Thanks for the toothpick suggestion to clear the lint, I used a Q-Tip with Isopropyl alcohol yesterday working on my QMX build and found a lot of that.

Re: 3D Printing Source?

Paul - do a search on Facebook Marketplace. I found someone locally to print my (tr)u-sdx boxes.
