Re: QDX Low Band Version 5 not initializing
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello again Bill here N3GTY. Even without a PC the QDX should
initialize with rapid flashes of the LED indicator. I have tried
this QDX on both Linux and Windows with the same results. Sound
Card Found. Serial Port Found. Putty terminal will not allow me
access the QDX configuration in Ubuntu or Windows. Not able to
access the QDX for Cat control. And yes I tried different USB
Cables and power supplies. The OS of the computer should have no
bearing on the QDX initializing. I checked the QDX soldering pads
very closely for bridges etc. The only post that I found with the
same problem that I have here has no resolution as of yet. Thanks
much for your input. I am thinking corrupt PIC chip but I will
keep looking bye for now Bill N3GTY? On 7/17/2023 11:28 AM, Evan Hand wrote:

Re: QMX low power on 40/30/20 after 20m mods
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWalt,I agree with Mike and Bruce, even if your capacitors are swapped, don't bother "fixing" it. From my experience "fixing" it made things slightly worse and is a lot of work, but squeezing the L513 coil gave me another 1/2 watt. Mine is now at 3.5 watts.? If you are only seeing 0.25 watts either your watt meter isn't working right or you have a different problem. I don't understand the circuits enough to say what may be wrong, but as always check all your solder joints and especially the ones on L510 and L513 which relate to the 20M band. The wire coating on the toroid wire sometimes is hard to get hot enough to burn it off and make a good connection. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA

Re: JS8call set up with QDX
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMitch,You may have to select TS-480 as the rig. The latest Wsjtx has the QDX listed, but JS8Call may not have been updated to give that option. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA

5) On all the units I had, the 29?+ 9 turn L401 (as per current manual), the turns had to be fairly much fully spread out, to get the 20, 30 and 40m BPF peaks correct. It may even be worth using 29?+ 8 turns for L401. We'll see.?Hi Hans. This is great information to have.? Thank you.? One question, however.? The photo in the manual shows the 9 turns to be spread out but the 19 turns to be not so spread out.? Do you mean that you had to spread out both sections?? I found that when I spread out the 19 turns, the RF sweeps got worse (but I was battling a second simultaneous issue at the time).? Just to be clear, do you mean to spread out both or just the 9 turns? 73, Mike KK7ER |
Re: QMX low power on 40/30/20 after 20m mods
Jeff,
IIRC, Hans said it didn't matter much. His mod page says "swapping the capacitors to correct this mistake (which?I have done, and is implied in the analysis below) does NOT materially improve the receive band pass filter response on 20m". I have not swapped them yet and I'm getting 3.5W out on 20m. 73, Mike KK7ER |
Re: QMX low power on 40/30/20 after 20m mods
Just curious, is swapping the caps required? According to "Solution #2" on the site, it doesn't mention about the caps being swappedI did the mod but need to find my dummy load before confirming. - Jeff (NT1K) On Mon, Jul 17, 2023 at 2:37?PM Walt (KK4DF) <wewilsonjr@...> wrote: I tested my LPF sections with a Nano VNA, and all the frequency plots look good to me.? I am away from the home QTH right now , else a QSO attempt would be made. Maybe sometime soon I will hear and connect with your mWatts level signal!...JZ KJ4A On Mon, Jul 17, 2023 at 2:08?PM Bill, N4QA <n4qa@...> wrote:
