Re: Wire guage on LPF's ?
Hi Andy,
If it is any help, I have managed to used 0.5mm Enamelled Copper Wire on an LPF, it was a tight fit but not too tight once the Enamelling was cleared off.

Re: Wire guage on LPF's ?
Hi Andy
The wire is specified as 28AWG (0.37mm). According to the PCB layout
program, the specified drill size for the toroid holes is 0.6mm but I
suppose some thickness is required also for the

Wire guage on LPF's ?
Can anyone confirm what the wire guage is as used on the LPF's
please ?
I make it either 28 or 30 SWG.
I've stuffed up a few toroids and run out of wire, so I need to be sure
of the guage,

U2 in Maine
I'm amazed how much I am smiling after getting the U2
put together, and screwing it into the 160M loop
that drapes around the back yard.
Seeing 4 others hearing me on WSPR is a real

Re: U2 displayed code in WSPR mode
Hello Hans
Oh dear, how red can a face get, they are of course BS170s! Even worse, I do now recall reading the explanation of the code when I built the kit. Also, I had the frequency set to

Re: U2 displayed code in WSPR mode
Hi Chris
The 3 digits are the last 3 digits of the frequency (right hand side, or
least significant). E.g. if you set your frequency to 10,140,100 then in
the WSPR mode the three digits will show as

U2 displayed code in WSPR mode
Returning to amateur radio after a break of about 30 years, I'm having a blast with WSPR, initially with an Ensemble RXTX and, in the last week, with my newly built U2 QRSS. It's been running fine on

Re: 60m band filter.
Hi Andy
Luckily, I have 680pF caps! They are used in the 40m kit. So I will put
together some kits for a 60m LPF and add them to the range!
Thanks!

Re: v2.02 firmware version coming soon...
Hi Eddie
John was asking about QRSS and CW. The issue you're referring to is the one
where the DDS output in v2.01 is very briefly set to 0 before being set to
its new frequency. But that is only an

60m band filter.
Just been playing here with a design for the 60m band which may be
of use to U2'ers, or Hans if he's requiring a 60m LPF design.
Take one of the 80m LPF's.
L1 = 23 TURNS (WAS 25)
L2 = 24 TURNS (WAS

Re: v2.02 firmware version coming soon...
Sorry to disagree with the designer Hans, but I would say that the upgrade is essential for all U2's.
U2's on QRSS can be identified on air by the LF and HF spikes which are still clearly visible at

Re: v2.02 firmware version coming soon...
Hi John
The upgrade is mainly useful for people wanting to use GPS, because v2.01
is evidently much too fussy about GPS modules it supports. It is also
useful for people wanting accurate frequency

Would the upgrade be useful to anyone planning on deploying their kits as either a QRSS beacon sans GPS or CW beacon?

Re: v2.02 firmware version coming soon...
Hi David
They way I was thinking it would work is, there would be two ways to get
the v2.02 upgrade:
1) I'll put the v2.02 upgrade in the online shop as I used to do for the
"Ultimate" (a.k.a. U1)

I was going to stay out of the 'Me too' postings, even though I am just as

Re: U2 and automatic frequency stabilisation
Hi Hans,
That's what I initially reported but this new observation is different to what I said before. It's simply not calibrating at all. I can switch on at [say] 09:01 with a frame time of 10 and

Re: U2 and automatic frequency stabilisation
Hi Keith
What I found in my testing was that if the calibration takes place before
the FSKCW starts, it is successful. But once the FSKCW has started, the GPS
frequency calibration doesn't happen,
