kit works
I finisshed assy of beacon kit today. works fine. I set mine for 10.140040 mhz and 5hz shift at qrss 6
I plan to mount mine at center of dipole with a 5volt regulator in the box. I will send up 12

Re: QRS kit quesion from Newby kitter
Well, I had it working for awhile. I listened on my radio at the beacon working 12 words a minute. Then I think I went too far counter clockwise on R8 whilst adjusting the power out. I added the

Re: QRS kit quesion from Newby kitter
I figured it out with some helpful advice from several of my mates. I now understand why no DC is shown on my meter, as it shouldn't be there! AC is what belongs there, and so it is. The crystal is

Re: QRS kit quesion from Newby kitter
Newt ,
The oscillator signal may not be strong enough for you to hear it . Take an old test lead ( or just a piece of wire ) with a banana plug and put it in the center of your antenna connector and

QRS kit quesion from Newby kitter
Hi All,
I am building the 30M QRSS and one of the interim checks is to see if the circuit is oscillating at 10.140 MHz.
I am using my FT-450 to check for oscillation, cw mode, and I do not detect

Re: K9EW QRSS on 10.140,033
Thanks guys for the winding tips. I was experimenting on the VLF band last night so didn't work on the 30m beacon. I will finish it today and use the 'scope to set the power per Hans

Re: K9EW QRSS on 10.140,033
Hi Mike,
Speaking of winding the toroids...
I found that the finished toroid matched the holes in the pc board best when
I wound the toroids like this:
- Hold the toroid so that the two sides (the

Re: K9EW QRSS on 10.140,033
Hi Mike
Good luck. Don't forget: the wire thickness is a bit too thick and so winding 35 turns on the inductor that is in series with the crystal is a bit difficult. In my build of the kit, I wound

Re: K9EW QRSS on 10.140,033
Ah, that is the reason. I subscribe to a lot of Yahoo Groups but read all of them in my email client rather than online.
BTW, going to wind the toroids for my 30m kit tonight and it'll be done then.

Probably you chose the individual emails delivery option. I have no emails, and I read the group on the web interface, http://www.yahoogroups.com . I think anyone who reads on the web, or

Mapping beacon grabber locations

I think it might be a neat idea if we could plot locations of our beacons and grabbers on Google earth. Never done it before but from

Looks very nice Ed. Wonder why I got the pictures as an attachment and Hans didn't? Yahoo had to pass the attachment thru for me to get it.

Hi Mike,
That extra board is the 5V regulator, held in place with hot-melt glue.
Thanks for the note.

Interesting, I got the pictures when Ed posted his reply. Blue case, LED, what is that little board off to the right inside with the wires to the beacon board?

Hi Hans,
Thanks for the email, and for answering my question about the "grabbers".
I attached an inside, and outside photo of my beacon.
Thanks again (to you and Steve) for making the kits

Great job on finishing the kit and getting it on air. Don't forget Steve G0XAR! He and I produced this kit collaboratively and equally! At Dayton I was just the smiley face of QRSS Labs kit
