Make sure you are not getting feedback between QMX and IC7300. I had lots of feedback and distortion until I backed the audio way down on my receiving QMX+. I made two QSOs with good signal reports. Mike Krieger On Thu, Mar 27, 2025 at 6:23?AM Mehmet Dinch via <msdinch=[email protected]> wrote:

HI Mel,
?
See my earlier message with a similar issue.
?
I had that distortion and then turned off predistortion etc. and it improved.
I re-ran the calibration and then is was OK ( for a bit ) and now have distortion again. ?
I don't have time to perform more rigorous testing/recording conditions, but I will post again when I do.

Well, I bit the bullet and installed the 003 FW.
Update of FW went all fine, no issue there.
I wired up a electret mic I found in my junk box.
Tested the mic on pc and sounded fine.
I made an adapter using the electret mic and a foot switch for ptt.
The Mic and ppt switch works. But...
Testing SSB TX with QMX on dummy load and listening on my ICOM 7300, the audio is badly distorted before calibration and even worse post calibration. So much so that the speech is unintelligible.
The audio sounds like the QMX is only picking up the peak signals from my voice.
Most of the calibration plots look nothing like the example ones from the release notes. And only a few mildly resemble the examples.
Adjusting mic gain to about 70 seems to improve the audio. However, every time I key up,? there is now an awful lot of noise before I even start speaking. Once I start speaking the audio is ok'ish with a load of background noise.
I tried messing about with other SSB settings with no improvements.
I did find a second electret mic that gave me similar results.
I have now set it back to factory default and seeking advice.
Any suggestions?

Re: Very simple QMX software request
My preference would be that instead of shutting the power off a high SWR would switch to the Tune power, then when the SWR improves the power is restored (ideally after a delay).? This avoids the need to do something other than using the tuner to get a low SWR while still keeping the QMX safe.
?
This may be a bit more work but would make operating using a tuner much easier.

When running the mic test I get the bottom row. However, it does not scroll up. So I don't see the history covered on the beta firmware page.I have the same problem.? Settings for one mic seemed OK but I changed mic and it worked OK for a recent SOTA - no unfavourable comments on audio quality.? New mic on the way so I will repeat the test when that is ready for use. Using Putty on Win11.

Re: QMX+ T507
I'm building a QMX+ and will get to that stage in a day or two but I really doubt that the PCB wiring is incorrect.? I checked some of the connections round T507 and it seems fine.
I've always considered that the wiring instructions for T507 to be totally clear - wind the two transformers one on each side of the binocular core and connect using the holes that seem obvious but people do seem to have the ability to misinterpret this. ?
T507 is wired as two separate 10:1 transformers, one through the upper hole of the binocular core, the other through the lower hole.
Holding the board with the RF output in the lower right corner the T507 connections are two vertical rows of 4 holes just to the left of the RF BNC:

Hope that helps, if you have a problem then photos showing exactly what you have done will be useful.

Re: QMX+: quick exit from menu system?
Hi Bruce Good idea, I can add that no problem. I suggest use of the normal exit button... But a long press to get all the way out of the menu, compared to the normal many-presses to come up one level at a time. 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Mar 26, 2025, 23:32 Bruce K1FFX via <rosen.bruce=[email protected]> wrote:

Hello Greg As far as I'm aware there isn't any race condition. Something else must be at fault here. The TX line is deactivated and after some short delay, RX is activated. And vice versa on key down.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Mar 26, 2025, 16:51 N1TR via <gregoryjz=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: QMX+ T507
The wiring is correct in the assembly manual.
It is not uncommon to forget to install the jumper in JP501 (shown in the diagram at the bottom of pg 36), which connects the BNC to T507 output.
It is also not uncommon to have soldering issues installing T507, making sure the enamel is fully cleaned from the windings for a good connection.

QMX+ T507
Can anyone confirm the wiring to the PCB is correct in the assembly manual ? Fired up my new QMX for the first time and was somewhat upset that everything was working but no signals were passing to or from the antenna. tracing the signal path back from C445 to the antenna socket I found nothing passing through T507. Sure that it was correctly but removed it temporarily? and jumpered across. Rig is working perfectly now but without SWR protection until I rewind the transformer. Looks as if the PCB was reworked in that area because there is nowhere to put the leftover capacitor lead link, Ha Ha . |
