Re: I'm stymied....

It could just be the silkscreen, but is there a ball of solder between pins 2 and 3 of the PCM1804 IC (IC407)?

Re: I'm stymied....

The pin farthest from the edge of the board on X401 looks like it isn't completely soldered. Try reflowing it.

I'm stymied....

After building my kit I very quickly put it on Ft8 to check it out. It received apparently ok. With pskrporter I saw my transmissions registered all over north America. I then plugged in a head set and heard Nothing. Tried a second headset still nothing. Switched the CW keyer to practice mode, no audio. If I use a cw key and put a power meter on when I key the paddle I get about 4 watts out.

There is a click when I power up and power down, but when on receive or during CW practice mode there is just no audio what so ever.?

I've looked over the board with a loupe at least 20 times. My soldering isn't professional but I don't see any missing smd parts, broken smd parts, or really bad solder joints. I've attacked an image incase someone knows an obvious location to look.?

Any help in where I could look next for trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.?

Re: QDX High band..won't

I set the "Japanese bands" limitation with Putty and it prevented any use of bands higher than 20M. I unabled the "Japanese bands" and now my Hi-band QDX works like a charm.

I'd have better luck tying a bow tie onto a deer tick than replacing that!? Best of luck, really.

Re: QMX - smoke - another C107/Q108 failure

I have worked on about 20 different QMX rigs for fellow hams. ?I made up a set of linear regulated ?PS boards for this kind of testing. ?3.3V from the existing linear regulator and 5V from a bench supply (fed from a hacked and burned up SMPS board) that I can control and measure the current. ?Feeding the ADC_ lines as well. ?This all works well and is very helpful in isolating problems and quickly confirming the main circuitry. ?One of my best tools.

Thanks, Hans.?

At least now I know that it's not me.? I really have missed the really sharp, yet clear filtering of adjacent signs and low RX noise floor from an earlier radio in your line of stuff.?

Phil,
Set your voltage to 8 or 9 volts.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere (I¡¯ve tried ¡)?
I¡¯d like to modify my ¡°first edition¡± QDX to receive on 15m. ?It¡¯s not entirely clear to me to what extent the hardware and firmware modifications that have been made to provide higher band capability can be used with my build to achieve that aim. ??

Please would someone help me eg by pointing me to the manual or discussion topic that might provide answers??

New Chat: QDX high band V5 no transmit above 20M #chat-notice

Group Notification

A new chat has been created:

Hello.
I posted recently about this issue but thought I would explain a little more.
The reception on all the high bands is excellent but it will only transmit on 20M or it will also try to load up on 40 and 30M.
I installed the jumper that was supposed to force the rig to highband but it does not.
Thanks,
Andrew

Re: QMX where can I find the future #qmx

The software is still very much at an alpha stage. There are quite a few usability bugs to sort out. Soon, I am sure the big features will be ready. I haven¡¯t been planning on SSB till next spring. I can QSO in CW and all single tone digital now. Hans has mentioned he has bugs, goals and hopefully ¡°reach goals¡± to work on. The goals include enabling the SWR meter and implementing high SWR power reduction. I am not sure if SSB is a goal or a reach goal. ?

Re: QMX T507 winding

Giuseppe it looks like you have 2 turns of the #22 (0.60 mm) wire on the T507 transformer. I believe the #22 wire should only got through each side of the core one time!!

QDX High band..won't

I just completed the high band version (5) of the QDX.
Everything seems to be correct and all continuity tests are a go.
Problem is it will not go above 20M.
I have installed the jumper, but no go.
Any ideas

Hi Randy,

Are you starting transmission by pressing the right encoder or the left (select) button?? The QMX works the same as the QCX series in that the left button repeats but pressing the encoder only sends once.

I have experienced a lot of glitchiness with the QMX messages.? In my case it appears that most of the problems were due to corrupted message configurations from editing in the terminal with my backspace key set incorrectly.? However, after a factory reset and configuring the messages using the CW decoder it does appear that repeat works properly.? Firmware 1_00_009.
