Re: FT8 for U3?

That's why I asked about (and deleted) rig control... I've only seen FT8 used to make QSO's. And yes, it's not easy

Re: FT8 for U3?

Any chance of FT8 mode being included in the U3 firmware.
Dean,

This seems to be becoming a popular "QSO" mode.
Is there really any interest in making it yet another beacon mode? The WSPR sub-band is the place for that.

Can't remember what it said! ?I think I tore the article out of the paper for future reference if I can remember where I put it!!!

Either the IC1 is blown, or the GPS module (or both).
DMM pin 20 of the GPS module (safer to measure on R1). A periodically varying ~3.3V signal indicates a working GPS module.
If there's a varying voltage there and not on IC1 pin 8 and 11 then the IC1 has failed.

Re: FT8 for U3?

No, no , please no. FT8 is a 'QSO' mode and letting loose FT8 beacons in the FT8 sub-band is, in my view, pointless and counter-productive and not at all in line with the ethos of the mode. I find it hard enough to make any FT8 contacts now as the sub-band on 40/20m is so crowded (however FT8 on 6m in the Sp-E season was excellent).

Re: FT8 for U3?

Hi Dean

I already coded FT8 in my U3, next version v3.13, last week. I have not yet had a chance to test it. v3.13 also contains JT4 and RTTY modes.?

I know the room in the ATMEGA is tight!? (PI mode anybody still use it???)
I understand this mode is a quick version of JT65 (15 second slots)!
The idea behind this is that it would be possible to fit in another tx mode within a frame.
I'm sure most will have 15 seconds spare, before calibration starts?!
thoughts anybody???

Alan, that should be written on the cover of a comforting book :o)

Re: QCX firmware 1.00d release

Hi Peter

That fix for the WSPR encoding will be in the next firmware release. 1.00e.?

I had to unscrew mine.
I'd suggest ignoring Hans on this point and only use a few screws like I did when I reassembled.

Re: U3 V3.03b no power output after connecting QLG1

Hi Hans, I had a look at the building instructions again and saw that I had stupidly forgotten to add the jumper for the PA,? I have been running the kit up to now with a separate power supply for the PA, duh, I have spent hours looking for the fault, panic over.
Thanks for your help, 73 Colin.

Re: GLG1 tape?

Hi Keith

You can remove it on all. It was only intended to be an additional protection during shipment.?

Thanks for the info. I removed the tape on the first
one, but I'll leave it in place on the second one.

Thanks for your reply, but I wasn't referring to what I
assume is double-sided tape on the patch antenna. The clear
tape I'm asking about is is the RF Module YIC51612.

PS - your QCX should be there any day now!

Re: GLG1 tape?

Hi Keith

The reason for the tape is that it provides some additional protection during shipping - both the bulk shipment from the manufacturer to the warehouse, and from the warehouse to you. What happened in previous batches was that sometimes, in the event of a hard knock to a package (during either of those two shipments), could sometimes dislodge the metal shielding lid of the RF module. That's why I got the additional protection added, and since then there have not been any instances of the lid coming off, as far as I can recall.?

Yes, that is the RF Module that I'm referring to.I have
two GLG1 GPS receivers. Both had some clear tape over
the YIC51612 RF Modules. I was just curious what reason was. See attached photo.

Re: Overhauling my first and second U3s. PA bias and power output with (3) BS170 transistors question(s)

Answering my own question. Set the bias per the manual. The high setting for PA voltage is a little over 7V. I could go higher but it's a weak signal beacon not VOA.

The OCXO wasn't drifting because it wasn't set right. It was drifting because it wasn't working. I must've toasted the heaters when I tried to adjust it. I'll just take the screws off the lid and replace the transistors <--- OCXO owners inside joke...
