I have had two lightening related failures over the years. Both were due to induces currents from nearby but not direct strikes. One was a TNC II (from TAPR) in the 80's. From the failed parts, it appeared to travel in on the GROUND line. The second was a laptop a few years ago. It came in through the telephone line, not the power.?
Although I don't follow this practice, total disconnect seems to be the safest route to go.?
