Strange how an old platform like the FT-817 STILL does not have any real competitors, after all this time.

You're right about the T41-EP. However, a smaller display, half the power output, tri-band, and putting things on one board might get it small enough to be a possibility. I actually like the G90, and ran it at 15W on SSB during Field Day and made a lot of contacts with a marginal antenna. But for hunt-and-pounce operation that is so common for QRP'ers, the G90 display just presents too small of a spectrum slice.

?

I hope someone does try to reduce the nano-acres of the T41-EP so it can be used for SOTA, IOTA, POTA, etc.

Indeed! I look forward to seeing the QSX someday.

What is missing is a physically small radio for field use,?something to compete with the FT-817, KX2, KX3, and the Xiegu?rigs. We have the sBitx and the T41-EP now; they?are good SDRs but they're both on the big side, so they're not ideal for SOTA or other applications where you carry the radio in. We have the uSDX and its descendents, but they're more in the category of cool hack than high performance radio.

The QDX-mini was fun but despite mods for wspr rx bandwidth still single band¡and the QDX despite my mods for most bands is not a ¡®complete¡¯ standalone radio system, and I even have a three band U3S data transceiver, ?I really am looking forward to a fully integrated physically small SSB solution to take on hols. My FT-897 is just tooo big.
