Re: QDX Estimation?

A trivia note on the Johnson Desk Kilowatt ?¡ª the same desk was widely used in the US Federal government, especially in domestic military offices. ? They were widely available in surplus channels for decades, and can still be sourced today, used. ?

You see them frequently on American television, mostly on police dramas. ? ?

My dad had one in the garage that he got for free when the next door neighbors abandoned it. ? Later I requisitioned another neighbor¡¯s pickup truck to push it to the curb. ?

My mother had one just like it where she worked at a marina in a floating office. ?Well, one day the office SANK. ? After it was reflated and the business sold, she got to keep it. ? ?Somehow it got to our house and I inherited it. ? I hated it. ? ?So I gave it to a friend and somehow we got it on his trailer. ? Since it weighed about 300 lbs, we didn¡¯t bother tying it down. ?

Mistake. ?

On the dirt road to his place, the desk committed suicide at about 45 miles per hour. ? That desk could swim, but it couldn¡¯t run. ??

Had I known about the Desk Kilowatt, I might have saved one of them and converted it. ??

PS ¡ª the same desk was manufactured in a lot of Federal prison workshops, and might still be available today. ?

Sent from my quenched-gap spark transmitter.?

I love that Johnson Desk. When I started this hobby in a school station it was a Johnson Viking Valiant and a Drake 2 BQ. I will always remember that big tube getting blue on transmission.
