George,
Yep, that looks like good (and typical) clean result! ?
I can¡¯t say this technique is original, but sometime about 20 years ago someone clued me in. ?Anyway, I probably use my Hakko desoldering tool to strip & tin more enamel wire then I do for desoldering (which it also works well for)! ?I used this technique for building a K1, K2, and KX1 - all without fear of dealing with enameled wire.
So, if you¡¯re having a hard time justifying one of the Hakko vacuum desoldering guns, it really does make stripping & tinning enameled insulated wire quick and painless - it is a lot less messy or dangerous than a pot of molten solder on the work bench! ?And way faster than sanding or scraping with a blade. ?I do not think I¡¯ve ever had a failure.
Note - I do not get compensated by Hakko¡ just a happy customer here with a little-known nifty solution to one of a builder's nagging problems. ?Seriously, this makes stripping & tinning enamel wire super easy.
Perhaps a little too excited about this secret? ?Well, yesssss!
73 & Merry Christmas

Thank you Steve. The finish on this #28 wire is?
perfect, without the rough finish tinning by iron
can leave. A blob that works!?
