QCX : WSPR cold start and QLG-1 Clock Sync

?

QXC Firmware 1.e

?

Hi guys,

?

#1478 is up and running (what a fun..). Just testing the WSPR Beacon function and connected a QLG-1 as indicated¡ The GPS is really sensitive and running inside the room quit nice, the flashing PPS LED indicates indicates a suggest in getting at least the time signal and (as far as I could see from the NMEA Datastream¡) in short time.

?

The QLG-1 is set up as suggested and powered from the QCX 5 Volt Line.. so the GPS will start same moment, the QCX is powered on.

?

Doing the Calibration from alignment menue works fine.. so basic communication QLG-1 ¡ú QCX seems to work.

?

Setting the QCX to a Start of 6 and an Slot of 12 , Beacon in WSPR Mode ON , I switch off the power and restart the set with a simple power on.. QCX starts in WSPR Mode with Time indication of 00:00:00 < 18 ..that is, what I expect¡ QLG-1 does take some seconds to catch the sats again.. and yes.. that works too for me, green LED flashes again.. but the clock indication does not chance or sync to the correct time.

?

So the first transmission is sent totally out of time sync¡ as claimed after the first WSPR transmission, the GPS is used to correct the Xtals (indicated by the short display of Xtal frequency) and the clock is set too¡

?

So at least, the first WSPR transmission is totally out of time sync and maybe also slightly off channel because of the ¡®cold¡¯ radio using the ¡®old¡¯ correction value from last callibration.

?

In my case, I got a extra problem: Transmitting in my radom wire causes sometimes the GPS Unit to loose the sats if they are really weak¡ (bad general RF ground.. flying wires on the bench.. of course this is the real problem.. ) and this leads to NO PPS Signal for QCX just after the WSPR transmission¡ just at the moment, the GPS is used to sync all stuff..

?

This ends as that the QCX shows only the WSPR Transmitt frequency .. and was waiting for the GPS to recover¡ and after the recover take place, the XTAL ( 27.004.xx ) frequency is shown second line for a moment and next the clock screen is shown¡ but still with the non synced time¡ so the Xtal sync seems to wait for the PPS signal, the clock sync does not¡

?

Tried to set start to 30 ¡ so there are 30 min time after power on to get the clock set by GPS¡ but this does not fix the problem.. clock is synced AFTER the first transmission (if GPS Signal is available at the end of transmission and the QLG-1 Unit is not influenced by the WSPR transmission itself..)

?

So I guess, extracting the clock info from the GPS datastream should be done more often to set the QCX clock as fast as possible after power on and not only once (?) after the WSPR transmission.

?

But maybe I simply missed a point in the ufb manual .. so any hint is welcome :)
