Let's not worry about it or discuss it too much further...
Technically, Andreas is correct, a message that someone bought something is like "Merry Christmas" or "Happy New Year"... it is off-topic... and if all 2,008 members of this group decided to do it, that would be a lot of messages...
BUT, on the other hand, occasional postings like this, do contribute to the nice friendly nature of the group, they help to establish the nice friendly atmosphere of the community.?
So I don't mind such friendly occasionally OT messages... and anyway the last thing I think we need is strict moderation. I really don't like mailing lists or groups where the moderation is too heavy, and people are scared to send a message in case someone gets offended. Better a more easy-going attitude, more tolerance, even if it means sometimes needing to press the "Delete" button more than technically necessary!
