Just for fun (what else?) I connected up an old Western Electric G5 push-to-talk headset. IT WORKS!? Yes, it is a carbon microphone. Yes, it sounds like a carbon microphone. Just like a telephone. Like what we used for a century and didn't know any better.
And yes, the receiver sounds great.
