I was the OP for this and I actually found the 'S' in the manual about 2 minutes later ... took
the posting down, but Tony and Heinz beat me to it.

Strangely enough, the "enter menu system and exit again" did indeed clear the 'S', but the
audio system was still muted ... the QMX+ would transmit but I couldn't hear my sidetone or
anything else in headphones.? Only a power cycle totally cleared the SWR protection state.

I was able to identify what put me in this state.? I was testing the QMX+ with my HardRock-50+
amplifier; the amp was connected to a dummy load, not an antenna.? This worked fine on the
most bands I would normally work (40, 30, 15, and 10).? On 20 meters, I suspect the QMX+
was overdriving the HR and the HR faulted ... it lit up its "too much power" light as well as
its "Reflected power" light.? Aside from stopping transmitting, I'm not sure what other actions
the HR-50+ takes ... maybe it disconnects itself from the transmitter driving it in self-defense (??).

Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow with lower input voltage on the QMX+.
