The reduction in current to something more reasonable when in a dIagnostics submenu?
sounds like what Ludwig mentioned previously, power to the final is shut down then..
Try lifting one end of L502, see things start behaving better.

With all that extra current, something is probably getting hot.
Feel the board thoroughly, see if you can find it.
