Re: QDX and Winlink

As I mention in a post earlier this month relating to using Winlink on iPhone, I've successfully used the latest code in the develop branch of ardopcf () to send and receive Winlink emails on Linux and Windows using my QMX. For this I used the Pat winlink client () along with ardopcf.

Ardopcf is my fork of John Wiseman's ARDOPC. Ardop shouldn't work with the QDX because all Ardop frames begin with a 2-tone leader, but with the QMX Fall-Threshold set to 0, it does. I have some ideas that may make it work better, but I haven't explored those ideas yet. I'm actively working to improve ardopcf while maintaining compatibility with the original ARDOP_WIN implementation of the Ardop protocol used by most (all?) Winlink gateways that support Ardop.

If you try ardopcf with a QMX or QDX, include -H "FSKONLY TRUE" in the command line options. This restricts transmissions to use only the FSK data frame types since the faster PSK and QAM types are definitely not compatible with QDX or QMX.

For the QMX, once SSB is usable, it will be able to use the full capabilities of Ardop, Vara, and other digital modes. At that point I think that the QMX will be a nearly ideal radio for low power digital HF communication. However, even once that works, I'd like to see what can be done to improve the usability of ardopcf for QDX users.

If I'm able to make QDX/QMX specific improvements to the performance of ardopcf, I'll post an announcement of such to this group as well as to the users subgroup of ardop.groups.io.
