I've been over this thing dozens of times with a lighted magnifier. I've touched up solder joints a few times with no improvement. If it's a SMD that's broken internally, I'm out of luck. I don't see anything that looks even remotely burned.

Seeing the "short" with the SMPS, control, and display boards removed, it at least tells me it's somewhere on the main board, but I wouldn't say that narrows the search much.

I also don't know if the original power supply boards took something else out or vice versa. I didn't have a variable power supply when I started this so I just used a small battery and watched the current on my DMM. And I didn't even know about the power supply board checkout procedure until I hit the troubleshooting phase.
