The encoders can be a bit tricky to get right with the way their leads are bent forward to reach the controls pcb. It can be a very tenuous connection.

One technique that I’ve used to repair a connection that looked good but had a hairline gap to the pcb was to solder a component cutoff to the hole in the pcb and then to the corresponding encoder lead.
