I use a Emtec ZM-2 Z match tuner for my QRP rigs.? It has a Tune mode that puts a resistor bridge between the radio and the Z match, it also has a tune LED that will go out when you have a 1:1 match.? The resistor bridge gives the radio a roughly 50 ohm load to keep from burning up the Power Amp of your rig.?
?
I then use the SWR mode on the QMX+ to generate a signal.? I have SWR mode set to the default 50% voltage setting (which works out to ~25% power, or about ~1w).? This is sufficient to light up the tune LED on the tuner and allow me to tune the antenna.?
Once I have a match that is close I take the tuner out of tune mode, use the SWR mode to see the final SWR at the radio, and fine tune using the SWR display on the QMX+, if necessary.? Although, it is usually less than 1.5:1 at that point, so I call it good enough and start operating.
