WOW, the nice Amazon delivery lady dropped off the ENTECHGO 28 awg wire at 7:30 this morning. When they said overnight for free, I didn't image the Dawn Patrol.?
Just spent some time testing burning the enamel off with the 'drag through a hot blob of solder method' and the poly coating just disappears leaving a nice, smooth, tinned end. Perhaps a bit of touch up to gently scrape off any black bits especially near the end of the still enameled end, mostly for esthetics.
I've only used the 'drag' method since I learned it from suggestions from other OPs back in 2007 when assembling an Elecraft K2 with all the options. LOTS of toroids to wire on that one, especially on the ATU unit. No problems encountered related to toroids on that build.?
Or on a QMX HB and two QMX+ kits this year and a bunch of small support and test kits over the years that needed wound bits. I do set up and wind, test fit,? measure lengths for burn back, and strip all the toroids, usually as the first thing assembly chore and leave them taped out on a bit of manilla flie folder stock with relevant information jotted down next to them about the part call out number, turns, etc. Being taped stable on the nice cream colored background makes it easy to double or triple check the turns count too.? Then I install when called for in the build instructions.?
On another note, when rummaging around in my electronics supplies and assembly tools drawer, I found that I already had a spool of that wire in that size that I used last January/February when building out the QMX HB at my FL winter QTH.?
I now have enough of that to build out 50 or more QDXs.?
