Thanks for the tip about adding some caps to the encoder outputs....I'll give it a try.

The most reliable encoder I have used is one that was advertised as an "optical" encoder...for the price it obviously wasn't! However it was mounted on a small circular PCB populated with several SMD components, possibly caps, and has given no problems despite heavy use....I've used this in my QCX classic, so plenty of room in my custom enclosure...for QCX mini and QMX possibly not.

Something else to note about this encoder unit is the relatively gentle notches while tuning.
