Yes, you absolutely can use only the battery part of the solution. However you still will need to order both PCB's because of their mechanical and electrical interconnection. If you do not want the ATU - just do not build it and leave the ATU mount board empty as a "dummy" PCB. You will have to use a jumper wire then as in QMX+ assembly instruction's page 37.

For the upper - companion board - you just attach the BMS plate, battery holders and a switch. If you do not want to build a speaker and amp - you can leave those parts unpopulated as well.

On both PCB's and QMX+ you still will need to solder in the JP102 2x2 connectors to deliver the charging power to the charger and deliver the power back to the main QMX+ PCB.

In fact, you can add other components later on gradually no problem.
