today the replacment PCM1804 arrived and I immediately soldered one in place and now everything is fine :-)
Stupid me damaged one pad and lucky me damaged pad #6, which is just a connection to VCC. Easy to install a bodge wire...
?
Luckily, I still have some leaded soldering equipment, that makes such a repair much easier.
