Instead of square waves you may be getting a low level squiggly sine wave as drive from the DDS, try adjusting the blue potentiometer on the DDS board for equal mark / space ratio on pin 7, if you don't have a scope adjust for max output on the higher frequencies. More O/P equals more efficiently running O/P stage & less heat.
