I bought a QCX Mini 20 m last spring and just got started on building it today.? I got through the transformer winding and soldering successfully so I was feeling pretty confident.? No problem with the DIP holder and I was on to the 100 pF capacitors, these should be a walk in the park!
Then when clipping off the leads for C12 I was not careful about the angle of approach of the clippers.? The cut felt kind of funny and I saw a grain of sand go flying off.? Uh, oh.
I managed to damage one of the surface mount resistors near C12.? I think it is R30.? Well no so much damage as destroy.? The center is gone.
I think I will order just the main board again.? A delay but I am not in a hurry.?
Is it crazy to consider getting the correct grain of sand (surface mount resistor) and trying to mount it myself?? Given that I am writing off the board if I make a complete hash of it it is not a big deal.? How good does my manual dexterity need to be to succeed at this?
