I would like to add an update.
I ordered an inexpensive hot air rework station from Amazon, and that combined with the microscope mentioned previously, I was able to closely check the condition of all of my solder joints, look for any solder bridges, and then finally use the hot air gun to remove Q103 and clean up the short at Q103 / Q104. Yes it was there.
I would also like to thank Jack W8TEE for his generosity and I received his package in the mail today of a replacement D101 - 1N4148 and soon had it installed, doubled check and powered up. So far all is working great. So far I have only received CW, so next is checking the filters, and then testing a digital mode. Looking forward to an AGC.
