Thank you for the reply I appreciate it very much, I have used FT8 a lot on 3 different radios so I understand that some fiddling may be required.
I run it on a net book with my my Argo 539 VI with great success in the woods however I want to down size my setup by
several pounds, so my plan is to try to run the QMX on my S22 phone using the FT8CN app, it has a setting for the QDX so this will be interesting.
?
Thanks for including your WSJTX settings, very helpful, and I still may be dragging a mini laptop of some flavor up the mountain.
Yes I was referring to the discussion on audio levels being set high enough. One of the guys mentioned the 4SQRP tuner and I think I will put one together
Just in case, All of my antennas are resonant where I operate, including my 3 EFHW antennas, I will be taking a EFHW and a linked inverted vee for 10-40 meters.
?
Congratulations on the excellent POTA activation, I hope to make a lot of contacts on two mountains over 10,300 feet high next summer as soon as the snow is
melted off the pass.
?
Now for a smaller CW key and maybe a microphone??? That would the ultimate icing on the cake, Hi Hi
?
To say I was impressed with your success would be an understatement, this is exactly the information I was looking for.

Cliff, Howard and Others:
Congratulations Howard!!!!? Glad to see it is working for you.
Cliff - you did a much better job of explaining this than I did.? Yes, you will get the dreaded message if you try have a powered on QMX plugged in and then turn on windows.? The key is to let windows fully boot and then power on the connected QMX.? It will also work if you let windows fully boot and then plug in a powered on QMX to the usb com port (although this probably isn't this best way to go about things).
John - Attached are images of my WSJTX settings.? After the build and some little problems getting it up and running, I basically followed the excellent instructions regarding configuring WSJTX software in the operating instructions.? The com port varied for me, but that is expected.? I'm not sure what you are referring to regarding the 80% setting.? Perhaps you are referencing the discussion about making sure that the computer audio levels are set high enough to activate transmission on the QMX.? My PC speaker level is adjusted to 100% and it is transmitting just fine.? Hans covers this issue after discussing the basic configuration settings in the operation manual.
I was operating POTA over the weekend with the QMX at around 4 watts + or - into a 40 meter EFHW antenna up about 45 feet on the high end.? I was also using a LDZ100 Plus ATU.? I ran the little QMX pretty hard over 4 days.? 111 cw contacts and 321 digital contacts (both FT8 and Ft4) on 20,30 and 40 meters.? I was astounded by how well it performed.? Just fantastic.? During long stretches of digital, I would grab it to feel if it was hot, and it was only very slightly warm.? Contacts all over the States with probably 10 or so digital contacts into Europe.? It is a beauty.? I never even thought once about taking my trusty Icom 705 out of the bag on the trip.? Thanks to Hans and everyone else on here for all of the wonderful information during the build.
