For the last 17 years I was not charged VAT on web hosting services I was buying from a US company. I got an email yesterday saying they are meant to charge me VAT so that's a 20% increase for something that is mainly consumed by people not in the UK. I should have been charged this for sometime but for once, anything before 2021 wont be back-charged.

However, I used to be charged German VAT on VPS services I was buying. Then the UK did it's "village idiot act" and voted to leave the EU and the German company no longer charge me VAT on those services.

Go figure.
