If you don't have a Signal generator but you have most of these components and an Island cutter? (Dan's small kits and parts ??) and a but of FR4 1.6 PCB blank you suddenly DO have a sig gen.
It' beautifully simple and will always start as in Osc.? OP at the? ferrite transformer? by simulation in LTspice is? abt 2mW at 600ohm at the transformer? (I did some jiggery with the transformer ratios to get that ) .?

You can get more power out? by upgrading the CBase transistor to something hoch Qualitat like the 2n 3866? and you could double up on the? J310 amp.? By eye that would give you perhaps 12 mW. What do you want, A flame thrower mate ?
The J310 in wired form is not trivial to find these days when you do find it it will be about 20 c per part .? This plus an Ebay 6 digit frequency counter should set you back less than forty dollars.? Do not subs the J310 in the hybrid - cascode amplifier part.
