As the world turns...
Does anyone remember the "9v smoke detector battery" as a "9v
transistor radio battery"? When I was in high school I had a radio
that used one, and a pair of Lafayette Radio lead-acid
rechargeable batteries to run the radio. The interesting one,
though, was the little red Regency radio that looked like a $6
cheapie, but wasn't. It ran on a 22 1/2 volt "b" battery for tube
type hearing aids. The main give-away that it wasn't what it
seemed was that the leather carrying case was the same gauge
leather as the Carhartt belt holding my pants up. The other
give-away was that if you opened it up and looked at the date code
on the Radiart tuning capacitor (they're the ones with R/C 273
stamped on them) it was for 1953, 6 years after the first
prototype, point contact transistor was made at Bell Labs. The
closest I could find to the original battery was a 15 volt
photoflash battery.

FWIW, my Mac would not recognize my QMX at initial power up.
however, my PC did recognize it and I was able to load the
firmware.
I was using a 9v smoke detector battery for power.
