QMN Picnic Saturday, October 19, 2024

Greetings,
?
The 2024 QMN Picnic is scheduled for noon on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Coldwater, MI.
?
We will be meeting at the Branch County Memorial Airport, located at 351 Airport Drive, Coldwater, MI 49036. Coldwater is located at the intersection of US12 and I-69, about a dozen miles from nine-land. You will want to go west on US-12 from the I-69 intersection about 3 miles to the west side of town.
?
On the East side of Coldwater, there are a number of restaurants, including McDonalds, Culver's, Arby's, Subway, Jimmy Johns. Pretty much anything you might like and you might find it convenient to pick up something for lunch at the picnic.
?
The airport address is: 351 Airport Drive, Coldwater, MI, 49036. The airport is located on the West edge of Coldwater just off US-12. The Branch County Communications Center is at the corner of US-12 and Airport Drive (and across the road from the Dodge Dealer). You will be turning south off US-12. Follow Airport Drive and just after the road turns to the right, you will see the terminal on the left. Enter through the door under the pitched roof and follow the signs. The terminal is the home of the Branch County Amateur Radio Club.
?
The Terminal Building has plenty of space, tables and chairs, a kitchen and restrooms. If the weather is cooperative, there are picnic tables outside adjacent to the terminal and there are a pair of small park type grills that can be used. You will need to bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid, along with your food and eating supplies. The schedule for eating will be determined once we are all in place.
?
For anyone who is flying in (and I understand that two of our members have indicated that they may fly in) as opposed to driving, you can taxi over to the terminal and park outside. If you would rather park your plane at the west end of the airport, call me at 517-617-4883 and I will zip down to pick you up!
?
We will also be monitoring our UHF repeater on 443.300 MHz with a 123 Hz tone if you prefer that method of communication.
?
We are happy and excited to be hosting this prestigious group. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

QMN early net subs needed

Hey gang. Very sorry to keep asking but I need subs for.... un, tonight 10/4 early, Tuesday 10/8 early, and Friday 10/11 early. I am very busy with a number of conflicting priorities during the month of October and November. There will probably be other dates I can't make. Please bear with me during this time.

I'll do my best to get on the net during the week to collect net reports.

Please consider volunteering, and Thank You!

Tom W8MK

Tuesday NCS

Hello...

I definitely need an NCS fill on Oct 8. Tonight, I am not sure I'll be off a Zoom call for work by 0200, so if I'm more than a minute late a fill will be needed. However, please give me a bit of a grace period as it may be close.

This is a temporary issue, it'll resolve by mid-Oct and you'll hear my undoubtedly cheery carrier with the same or better reliability. Be sure to click that like and punch the subscribe button...

Good Afternoon,

As a result of pending colder weather that will be upon us before we know it, and the thoughts of having a picnic outdoors with no appreciable shelter, I propose that that we meet in Coldwater on Saturday, October 19 at noon.
?
I have made arrangements to utilize the facility (Branch County Memorial Airport) that our local radio club calls home. We hold all of our club activities at this facility. There is a picnic area outside if the weather is cooperative, and if not, we can move inside where we can comfortably seat many more individuals than we will have in attendance. The address is 351 Airport Drive, Coldwater, MI 49036. My cell number in 517-617-4883 and our local repeater is on 443.300 MHz, 123 Hz tone.
?
You can find some facility pictures on QMN's Groups.io page.
?
Coldwater is an easy drive from just about anywhere in the state as I-69 and US 12 come right through Coldwater.?
?
I would like a 'show of hands' as to who is interested in taking a nice fall Saturday drive to Coldwater to have some fun with fellow QMN'ers. If you cannot make it, I would appreciate it if you would respond to tell me that as well.
?
You can reach me at wb8r@... or by phone.
?
Thanks for your response, and I look forward to seeing you in October.

I’ll pick it up tonight, Mike. Is the check over 100?

I’ve often wondered why we don’t create book traffic for multiple net reports. I bet it would save time.?

Sample text for book net reports
Common text:
QMN EARLY AUG blank QNI
blank QTC blank QTR blank
QNS blank W8MK/NCS BT
TOM AR

NR 1 30 6 0 10 K8ED/8RN/SE?
KB8PGW/DTN K8LJG WB8R WB8DTT BT

NR 2 …

AR END BUK N

Someone give it a try next time you have multiple reports.
