Re: QCWA Chapter 41 Luncheon / WA5CMI Joint Luncheon 4/26/2024
CHAPTER 41 QCWA SALES ASSISTANCE? FOR MEMBERS:
Jim: For what it is worth, a form of this was already?tried several times with varying degrees of disaster when the hamfest was held over in Arlington. Here were some of the scenarios: 1. Member brought eqpt to QCWA table and left it for sale but never came back to pick it up when it did not sell! 2. When equipment was sold, Member was unhappy with the sales price!? 3. Member wishing equipment to be sold, never "served time" to aid in its sale or the sale of any other equipment. 4. Etc., Etc.................Been there, done that, don't recommend it. .? Bottom line, if you want to sell equipment get a table and take an active part in the sales of same. Or, highly recommend the use of for sales of ham eqpt.
SRI for my absence at the luncheon as I attended the Durant,OK Saturday hamfest held at the Durant Airport. WX was beautimous' !?

Greetings All!
?
We had an enjoyable, relaxed and informal meeting this morning at the Southern Recipes Grill. It was a very nice, sunny morning after a week of storms. I think many took the opportunity to get some outdoor spring chores accomplished or just enjoy the warm weather. Our attendance was down in number, but not in quality!?
Those attending were W5WN, WA9POK, K5BOI, W2HLD, KI5UXC. A few other regulars were out of town.
?
We started with a little "show and tell" session. Jim, W5WN brought a Texas Bugcatcher coil for MIke, W2HLD to experiment with on his inverted L. His objective is better loading on 75 meters without having any appreciable impact on loading on higher bands. Another bonus would be the possibility of obtaining 160 meter capability. The coil was broken off of a vehicle that went too fast under a low hanging tree branch. The mounting studs for the mast and whip were broken, but otherwise the coil is intact, in good shape and should prove to work well for his experimentation. Those present commented on how the coil could be repaired to be put back in service as a mobile antenna. No repairs should be required to use it for a fixed station antenna installation.
?
The possibility of using a logging program for the Sunday morning 75 meter net was briefly discussed. There were 2 possible programs discussed. One is NetLogger. It requires a program to be installed on a computer. It is quite full featured and powerful. Another option is a web based application called Ham.Live that can be accessed by any device with a browser capable of logging into the website. It would potentially be useful for a greater number of net stations and has what appears to be an easier to use interface. No decisions were made as to the next step with logging software so it's still up for discussion. Provide your thoughts, opinions, advice, etc. here on the reflector.
?
We discussed initiating a chapter program to reserve tables at hamfests for use by QCWA Chapter 41 members. This would provide an opportunity for members to have others take equipment for sale to the hamfest if they could not make it themselves.? A donation of 5% of the proceeds from the sale of the equipment would? be used to offset the cost of renting the tables. A small initial donation from anyone using the table would provide seed money to get started. Anything left over from the 5% fee on equipment sales would go toward tables at the next hamfest. The objective is to break even and not make a profit.
?
Finally, we discussed catching up on presentation of QCWA membership awards. Chapter officers have access to print the awards. Initially, awards could be printed on standard computer paper and given to members. If so desired, the member could request an enlarged award, or one on heavier paper stock as well as a frame for a donation to defray the involved cost. Unless the chapter votes to elect a Treasurer and begin charging dues, it appears this is a reasonable approach to recognize those members deserving awards. Regardless, all awards will be printed in full color.
?
As always, Chapter 41 members would like your input as to what you would like the chapter to do. Any ideas on programs or activities are appreciated.

Chapter Update for This Week
- We had a great turnout for the 4/13/2025 Sunday morning 3.835 Mhz QCWA41 net. There were 18 stations that checked in. I want to thank everyone for your participation
?
- ATTENTION: WANTED / NEEDED Mont, K0YCN is retiring from keep net attendance spreadsheets. Mont, thank you for 25 years of service to Chapter 41. If anyone is able to take over maintaining the Excel spreadsheets, please contact Mont or me to coordinate the transfer of this function.
?
- Remember the 4th Saturday breakfast / luncheon at the Country Recipe Grill in Plano @ 11:00 AM. The WA5CMI group is welcome to join as a group affair.
?
- Tom, K5LOL suggested that we try Netlogger software to facilitate the net controls and check-ins to the Sunday morning net . If a net control station cannot or does not wish to use the program, someone else can do so to relay check-in information.? Another browser-based program is available that doesn't require downloading and installing software is available. It looks promising as well.? You can access this with a Windows, Apple, Android, Unix operating system or with an iPhone. Take a look and see what you think. We can discuss this at the next luncheon meeting on 4/26/2025.?
?
- Your suggestions are requested and appreciated for any Chapter 41 future programs or activities. We can be as active and involved as members desire. What are your thoughts?
?
- Recruit another ham to attend our luncheons and nets. The more participation, the better. Non-members are welcome.
?
I hope you all enjoyed my earlier April Fools message!

During the March QCWA meeting at Southern Recipes Grill on the 4th Saturday (3/22/2025) we discussed future membership and and activities for Chapter 41. It was decided that two endeavors would be beneficial and provide some solid resources and opportunities
for chapter members. Consequently, it was voted on and agreed that the following Chapter 41 executive orders would be issued and effective the first of April 2025:
?
Chapter Membership
?
I.
?
In light of the ease of obtaining an Amateur Radio license it was decided that membership in the chapter should reflect the same. There are many Technician classes that generate new Technician class licensees in a weekend. Shortly thereafter, many upgrade
to General and Extra class within weeks or months. Therefore, we have recognized the rapidly expanding body of licensees, the expectation that things should happen quickly (no more waiting months for a license to arrive in postal mail) and the need of the
chapter to attract new members.
Be it resolved that any individual that has successfully passed and subsequently received an Amateur Extra Class license shall be eligible for full chapter membership. The key factor is for them to acknowlege and accept that the Quarter Century Wireless
Association itself, has existed for over a quarter century. They must agree to abide by the principles and philosophy of QCWA. National membership is not needed to be a chapter member.
?
New Chapter Opportunity
?
II.
?
In light of uncertain economic conditions and the ability of the Amateur Radio community to afford radio equipment and accessories, it was decided that the chapter would acquire the assets and business of MFJ, Inc. from Martin Jue. This will provide opportunities
for chapter members to obtain equipment at a reasonable cost, help the Amateur Radio community at large, as well as provide employment possibilites for chapter members. Opportunities in sales, marketing and advertising, front office accounting and clerical,
engineering, manufacturing and repair will generate an abundance of opportunity. Therefore, be it resolved, that Chapter 41, in acquiring MFJ, Inc. will be able to provide mighty fine junk as well as anyone.
?
Other Matters For Your Consideration
?
Everyone have a wonderful April. If you haven't heard, K5LOL, Tom, suggested that we consider the use of NetLogger software for our Sunday morning QCWA nets. It would facilitate stations that may be farther away from net control, those running portable
or QRP equipment, have compromised antennas or those just wanting to ensure that they are recognized as a checkin to the net. It would not be a requirement for either net control stations or checkins to use the software. Let us know what you think.
