February 2021 QCWA Palm Beach Chapter Meeting 3
HI All, I hope you are all doing well. I also hope that you have received your COVID-19 vaccinations. Please stay safe. Our QCWA Chapter 111 meeting this month will be held on Tuesday, February 23 via Zoom. The information is below. There has been some interest in going back to in-person meetings at the Golden Corral. Although I would like to get back to the way it was before the pandemic I truly believe that, even with vaccinations, this is not the time to be doing that. The virus is not really under control, not everyone has been vaccinated and now there are the variants to worry about. So, for some time to come, it looks like we'll be having meetings via Zoom. It's hard to project an end to virtual meetings but we'll keep an eye on things as time goes on. Thanks for hanging in there with us. Special thanks go to Howard, KC3D for setting up the Zoom meetings for us and for running the meetings if I cannot attend. In the meantime, we can all get on the air and still enjoy our wonderful Ham Radio hobby. Again, stay safe. 73, Al, N3EA Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3016418811 Meeting ID: 301 641 8811 One tap mobile +13017158592,,3016418811# US (Washington DC) +13126266799,,3016418811# US (Chicago) Dial by your location +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) +1 646 558 8656 US (New York) +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) Meeting ID: 301 641 8811 Find your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kbpryvOvHh

QCWA October 27 Meeting 9
Hi all, Our October meeting date is coming up on October 27. As you know, we have been having our meetings via Zoom since in-person meetings are still not a safe thing to do. However, at our last meeting we only had a few people join us on Zoom. If there's not a lot of interest in doing a Zoom meeting this month we may opt not to have a meeting via Zoom this month, have the meeting on the repeater instead, or just not have a meeting at all. So, as an informal poll please respond to this message (or send me a personal email) to let me know if you are interested in attending a Zoom meeting this month or not. Then, we can figure out if any of the other options are a better way to go for October. Thanks, Stay Well & 73, Al, N3EA amaslin@... n3ea@...

2020 only Field Day Rule adjustments
Temporary Rule Waivers Announced for 2020 ARRL Field Day 05/28/2020 With one month to go before 2020 ARRL Field Day, June 27 ¨C 28, the ARRL Programs and Services Committee (PSC) has adopted two temporary rule waivers for the event: 1) For Field Day 2020 only, Class D stations may work all other Field Day stations, including other Class D stations, for points. Field Day rule 4.6 defines Class D stations as ¡°Home stations,¡± including stations operating from permanent or licensed station locations using commercial power. Class D stations ordinarily may only count contacts made with Class A, B, C, E, and F Field Day stations, but the temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows Class D stations to count contacts with other Class D stations for QSO credit. 2) In addition, for 2020 only, an aggregate club score will be published, which will be the sum of all individual entries indicating a specific club (similar to the aggregate score totals used in ARRL affiliated club competitions). Ordinarily, club names are only published in the results for Class A and Class F entries, but the temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows participants from any Class to optionally include a single club name with their submitted results following Field Day. For example, if Podunk Hollow Radio Club members Becky, W1BXY, and Hiram, W1AW, both participate in 2020 Field Day ¡ª Hiram from his Class D home station, and Becky from her Class C mobile station ¡ª both can include the radio club¡¯s name when reporting their individual results. The published results listing will include individual scores for Hiram and Becky, plus a combined score for all entries identified as Podunk Hollow Radio Club. The temporary rule waivers were adopted by the PSC on May 27, 2020. ARRL Field Day is one of the biggest events on the amateur radio calendar, with over 36,000 participants in 2019, including entries from 3,113 radio clubs and emergency operations centers. In most years, Field Day is also the largest annual demonstration of ham radio, because many radio clubs organize their participation in public places such as parks and schools. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many radio clubs have made decisions to cancel their group participation in ARRL Field Day this year due to public health recommendations and/or requirements, or to significantly modify their participation for safe social distancing practices. The temporary rule waivers allow greater flexibility in recognizing the value of individual and club participation regardless of entry class. ARRL is contacting logging program developers about the temporary rule waivers so developers can release updated versions of their software prior to Field Day weekend. Participants are reminded that the preferred method of submitting entries after Field Day is via the web applet. The ARRL Field Day rules include instructions for submitting entries after the event. Entries must be submitted or postmarked by Tuesday, July 28, 2020. The ARRL Field Day web page includes a series of articles with ideas and advice for adapting participation this year.

What a wonderful 2 Page(76-77) tribute to Don by Bernie W3UR(DailyDX.com & DX Editor for QST) in the June Issue of QST. The article captures Don in his Public profile. We of course knew him as a local friend. Bernie wrote about things we did not know about in Don's history. I was always in awe of Don's Country count. [pr:14922] 95th World Amateur Radio Day
Hello all, I know that we are all dealing/struggling with all of the impacts of COVID-19. However, it is also a time when we may be isolated, but we are not alone because we can get on the air. That can be how we celebrate the 95th anniversary of World Amateur Radio Day on Saturday, April 18. That celebration also marks an opportunity for us to promote amateur radio to the media and the public. Here is some messaging you might be able to use if you want to promote this event. April 2, 2020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WORLD AMATEUR RADIO DAY BACKGROUNDER What: Celebration of the 95th annual World Amateur Radio Day Who: All amateur radio operators worldwide When: Saturday, April 18, 2020 0000 UTC until Sunday, April 19, 2020 at 0000 UTC Where: A global event covering all IARU regions Why: World Amateur Radio Day is the day when IARU Member-Societies can hone our skills and capabilities while enjoying global friendship with other amateurs worldwide. Every April 18, radio amateurs worldwide take to the airwaves in celebration of World Amateur Radio Day. It was on this day in 1925 that the International Amateur Radio Union was formed in Paris. Amateur Radio experimenters were the first to discover that the short-wave spectrum could support worldwide propagation. In the rush to use these shorter wavelengths, Amateur Radio was ¡°in grave danger of being pushed aside,¡± the IARU¡¯s history has noted. Amateur Radio pioneers met in Paris in 1925 and created the IARU to support Amateur Radio worldwide. Just two years later, at the International Radiotelegraph Conference, Amateur Radio gained the allocations still recognized today ¡ª 160, 80, 40, 20, and 10 meters. Since its founding, the IARU has worked tirelessly to defend and expand the frequency allocations for Amateur Radio. Thanks to the support of enlightened administrations in every part of the globe, radio amateurs are now able to experiment and communicate in frequency bands strategically located throughout the radio spectrum. From the 25 countries that formed the IARU in 1925, the IARU has grown to include 160 member-societies in three regions. How: There are many ways to participate and promote World Amateur Radio Day. Just a few include: Get a station on the air! Create your own personal ¡°event¡± to talk amateur radio. Checking into The Echolink World Conference and IRLP 9251 which is going to help celebrate World Amateur Radio Day . The special event callsign will be W7W. Hope you are able to check in. Look and contact stations using the W7W callsign. Create and hold a special net on World Amateur Radio Day to raise the level of attention to the event and allow hams to get talking about our hobby. Get the word out! If you¡¯re responsible for club publicity send a press release and do public relations outreach to highlight the event. The IARU theme for 2020 is ¡°Celebrating Amateur Radio¡¯s Contribution to Society.¡± This is a great opportunity to talk about what amateur radio contributes on a community level. Promote your personal World Amateur Radio Day activity on social media by using the hash tag #WorldAmateurRadioDay on Twitter and Facebook. Use the poster and flyer provided by the IARU to help publicize the global event, amateur radio and your group at the same time. They are located https://secureservercdn.net/166.62.112.193/o7i.02a.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/61x91.pdf (poster) and here https://secureservercdn.net/166.62.112.193/o7i.02a.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/a4.pdf (flyer). World Amateur Radio Day is not a contest but rather an opportunity to ¡°talk¡± about the value of amateur radio to the public and our fellow amateur colleagues. It is also a great opportunity to talk about your club and amateur radio in local media as a lead-up to Field Day and another ham radio related activity. In these times of social isolation, amateur radio continues to remain relevant in bringing people together. ¡°Social distancing¡± has long been a positive practice in the hobby by bringing people together culturally through radio while providing essential communicat
